Description / Table of Contents:
Mass Spectrometric Investigation of the equilibrium CoCl2,s + 1.5 Al2Cl6,g = CoAl3Cl11,gUp to now the conclusion that the larger gaseous complex CoAl3Cl11 exists besides the main components Al2Cl6,g and CoAl2Cl8,g in contact with CoCl2,s was only possible in an indirect way, and its formula was not certain. Now we observed CoAl3Cl11 (as CoAl3Cl10+) by mass spectroscopy. The measurements of the equilibrium \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm CoCl}_{{\rm 2s}} + 1,5{\rm Al}_{\rm 2} {\rm Cl}_{{\rm 6,g}} = {\rm CoAl}_{\rm 3} {\rm Cl}_{{\rm 11,g}} $$\end{document} lead to the data ΔH°(556) = +2.9 kcal; ΔS°(556) = -4.8 cal/K. The ΔS- value comes near to the expectation.
Notes:
\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm CoCl}_{{\rm 2s}} + 1,5{\rm Al}_{\rm 2} {\rm Cl}_{{\rm 6,g}} = {\rm CoAl}_{\rm 3} {\rm Cl}_{{\rm 11,g}} $$\end{document} führte zu ΔH°(556) = +2,9kcal; ΔS°(556) = -4,8cal/K. Der ΔS-Wert entspricht nahe der Erwartung.
