Notes: Abstract Event fairness suitable for non-interleaving concurrency is proposed. Fairness is viewed with respect to concurrency, rather than non-determinism, in the sense that no concurrent component of the system should be delayed indefinitely. Shields' asynchronous transition systems and Mazurkiewicz's traces have been used; the model gives rise to a partial order. A class of generalised notions of (weak, strong and unconditional) event fairness relative to progress requirements is derived. The weakest fairness notion in this class is shown to coincide with maximality with respect to the partial order over traces.

Notes: Abstract Two types of plasmodesmata are found within an antheridium of Chara vulgaris: open plasmodesmata filled with electron-transparent cytoplasm, and plugged plasmodesmata, filled with an osmiophilic dense substance. Open plasmodesmata occur only between cells synchronized completely in respect of their advancement in cell-cycle progression or differentiation. Plugged plasmodesmata connect different types of cells or cells of the same type at various stages of the cell cycle. Open plasmodesmata may become plugged, and vice versa. These changes are connected with the limitation or extension of synchronization of cellular divisions and differentiation within the groups of cells in the antheridium.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Durch Fluidisationsverfahren erhaltene Polypropylenbeschichtungen wurden untersucht.

Notes: Abstract Polypropylene coatings obtained by the fluidized bed method were investigated. It was proved that the application of thermal analysis methods for their characterization gave many useful data, as a consequence of the similar conditions of thermal measurements and plastics powder processing. Significant correlations were found between the thermal properties and the standard coating poperties.

Notes: Abstract The study area in the Bialowieza primeval forest-size 28000 m2, divided into quadrats of 100 m2, comprised two patches ofPotentillo albae-Quercetum as distinguished by phytosociological methods, and a fragment of an adjacent very largeTilio-Carpinetum stand. The directional variation in the distribution ofCarpinus betulus trunk diameter values in the southern part of the study area indicates invasion of this oak forest byCarpinus. This process probably started 1962–1968. The invasion ofCarpinus betulus caused considerable deterioration in light conditions of the ground layer, as deduced from a decrease in Ellenberg light index values. The phytosociological division of the study area correlates with variation in the spatial pattern ofCarpinus mean trunk diameter distribution. Quadrat groups were distinguished by association analysis. They were described phytosociologically using systematic group values for species, constituting the characteristic combination for thePotentillo albae-Quercetum. Areas occupied by still olderCarpinus individuals correspond to successive stages of oak forest regression. The deterioration of light conditions caused recession of thermo-and heliophilous oak-forest species and decline ofPotentillo albae-Quercetum phytocoenoses. However, this was not accompanied by the expansion pansion of species ofCarpinus forests.

Notes: Summary The antheridium ofChara vulgaris L. is connected by plasmodesmata with the thallusvia a basal cell. Prior to the initiation of spermatozoid differentiation these plasmodesmata are spontaneously broken, resulting in symplasmic isolation of the antheridium. Premature plasmolytically evoked symplasmic isolation of the antheridium leads to a 2–4 fold reduction in the length of antheridial filaments and the elimination of 1–2 cell cycles from the first stage of spermatogenesis. Autoradiographic and cytophotometric studies have shown that, as a result of induced symplasmic isolation of the antheridium, endomitotic DNA synthesis was blocked both in the young manubria (after 24 hours) and in the capitular cells (after 48 hours). In the antheridial filaments DNA synthesis was inhibited together with either elimination of divisions and induction of spermatid differentiation or developmental block. We propose that breakage of plasmodesmata connecting the antheridium with the thallus is a signal which releases, in all antheridia, mechanisms that (i) block endomitotic DNA synthesis in the manubria, (ii) restrict the growth rate and the divisions of antheridial filament cells, and (iii) induce spermiogenesis in these antheridia in which the manubria attained the sufficient level of polyploidy.

Notes: Summary The following changes of plasmodesmatal connections occur during the development of antheridia inChara vulgaris: 1. Disappearance of plasmodesmata between shield cells, and between the shield cells and basal cell, leading to a decline in symplasmic transport around an antheridium, and determining its concentric or centrifugal course via centrally situated capitular cells. 2. Structural changes of simple plasmodesmata into complex connections between capitular cells and a basal cell, and between capitular cells and manubria. 3. Plugging and unplugging of plasmodesmata. Unplugged plasmodesmata are present between synchronously developing cells. Plugged plasmodesmata link cells of the same type which are at different phases of the cell cycle, or cells of different types.

Notes: Abstract In a physiognomically uniform Leucobryo-Pineteum phytocoenose the spatial pattern of point diversity was determined and the effect of quadrat size on the assessment of alpha diversity (in Whittaker's, 1977, sense) was analysed. In both cases the Shannon index of total species diversity and the evenness index were used to measure diversity. A contagious spatial pattern of point diversity and a high variation of point diversity values, as well as a strong non-linear dependence of H′ and J values on quadrat size, and also a decrease in H′ and J variation with an increase in quadrat size were found.
