    Description: The changes in chemical, microbial and quality sensory of fillets for silver carp fish treated with black cumin extract during refrigerated storage were investigated. The fish were divided into two groups. First group was dipped in black cumin extract with concentration of 1% and received the highest score in sensory evaluation. Then the fishes were wrapped in polyethylene package. The second group, as the control samples, were wrapped in polyethylene package after dipping in distilled water. All treatments were stored at refrigerator temperature (1±4°C). The microbial tests including total viable count, psychrotrophic count and chemical tests including peroxide index, thiobarbituric acid, free fatty acid value and total volatile basic nitrogen, with sensory evaluation, were done at 4°C over a period of 15 days. The results showed that the black cumin extract delayed lipid oxidation and protein analyses significantly in treated fishes. Psycrotrophic bacteria and total viable count of samples being treated with black cumin extract were maintained lower than the proposed acceptable limit (7 log cfu/g). In comparison to the control samples, microbial spoilage significantly decreased in treated samples. Furthermore, according to sensory analysis, the treatment with black cumin extract led to high quality during storage.The findings indicated that black cumin exerts had strong antioxidant and antibacterial impacts on silver carp fish, such that the shelf life of fillets being treated with black cumin were 2.5 times more than that of control samples during storage in refrigerator.

    Description: In the present study, hydrolysed protein of viscera and head of Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) was compared using Alcalase enzyme and internal tissue enzymes at 2 and 4 hours. The result indicated that product by Alcalase (Treatment 1) had significantly higher protein and rate of hydrolysates than that produced by internal tissue enzymes (Treatment 2). So, the highest mean (±SD) protein (68.10±1.33) was related to treatment 1-head (with Alcalase enzyme) after 4 hours and the highest rate of hydrolysates (29.36±1.35) was related to treatment 1-head (with Alcalase enzyme) after 4 hours. The result indicated that rate of hydrolysates raised as time of hydrolysates increased. However the intensity and rate of hydrolysates is reduced. The highest rate of hydrolysates occurred at 120 minutes in the first. This mode was similar for two treatments. The result can be considered as the Alcalase was preferred to internal enzyme.

    Description: The present study evaluated the effect of Lactobacillus plantarum as a probiotic on the growth performance and haematological parameters of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) weighing 29.6±1.8 g immunized with streptococcus/lactococcus bivalent vaccine for 60 days at 16±1.5ºC. Fish were randomly allocated to 4 equal groups: probiotic (g kg^-1 feed equal to 10^8 cells g ^-1 ) supplemented diet group (group P), vaccinated fish fed with a normal diet (group V), vaccinated fish fed with probiotic (group P+V) and unvaccinated fish fed normal diet (group C). Results showed that weight gain, final weight, condition factor and thermalunit growth coefficient were improved in P+V group compared with other groups but was significantly different from groups V and C (p〈0.05). Also, feed conversion ratio in the P+V group was lower than other trails (p〈0.05). In addition, white blood cell count (WBC) in groups V and P+V were significantly higher than in both P and C groups (p〈0.05). Also, PCV was significantly increased (p〈0.05) in both P and P+V groups compared to group V and the control group. No significant difference (p〉0.05) was found in RBC, Hb, MCH, MCHC and MCV levels among the different experimental groups. These data show that application of L. plantarum could be a benefit of vaccinated trout, enhancing fish growth and haematological parameters.

    Description: Genetic diversity of six populations of bartail flathead (Platycephalus indicus Linnaeus, 1758) was investigated using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP). A total of 118 reproducible bands amplified with ten AFLP primer combinations were obtained from 42 fishes that were collected from six different locations in the northern part of the Persian Gulf. The percentage of polymorphic bands was 57.06%. Nei’s genetic diversity was 0.1808±0.2074 - 0.2164±0.1903, and Shannon’s index was 0.2675±0.2949 - 0.3280±0.2727. The results of AMOVA analysis indicated that 66% and 34% of the genetic variation occurred within and among the populations and gene flow was 0.6454. The estimated level of population differentiation as measured by average Fst value across all loci was 0.327. Analyses revealed significant genetic differentiation with low gene flow among the six locations, indicating at least six separate populations of bartail flathead in the northern part of the Persian Gulf.

    Description: The Persian Gulf is of great economical, environmental and political importance, and includes around 205 species of fishes that only some of them have been studied parasitologically. From the order Pleuronectiformes ( ray-finned fishes), Psettodes erumei (Psettodidae), Pseudorhombus elevatus (Bothidae) and Brachirus orientalis (Soleidae) were selected for the survey. One hundred and forty eight fishes including 97 P. erumei, 43 P. elevatus and 8 B. orientalis were provided from two different regions of Iranian waters of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. From P. erumei, 4 species of nematodes, one cestode and one acanthocephal species are reported including: Philometra sp., Contracaecum sp., Pseudoterranova sp., Raphidascaris sp., Dasyrhynchus sp. (Trypanorhyncha) larvae and Serrasentis sagittifer. This is the first report of S. sagittifer in P. erumei from the Persian Gulf. P. elevatus had fewer species of parasites including one nematode, Contracaecum, one copepod, Heterochondria pillai and one digenea metacercaria Stephanostomum sp. Brachirus orientalis harbored one copepod and two digenea species, Allocreadium sp. and Lepocreadioides zebrini. Our research provides evidences that Indian spiny turbots have larger diversity of parasites than the deep flounders.

    Description: This study evaluated the impact of dietary supplementation bacteria, Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus bulgaricus isolated from the intestine of Barbus grypus on growth performance, survival and intestinal flora of common carp. For this purpose 480 common carp (average initial weight of 40 ± 6g) were randomly divided to 4 treatments (with three replications) and fed with diet containing 5×107 CFU/g L.plantarum (Group 1), L.bulgaricus (Group 2), Lactobacillus casei (Group3) and a diet without probiotic supplementation (As control group) for 60 days. To evaluate the persistent of the bacteria in digestive system, from the 60 th day to75 th day, experimental fish were fed with diet without probiotics (control). Results showed that Specific growth rate of fish fed diets containing Lactobacillus significantly higher compared with control group (p〈0.05). Fish fed diets containing L.casei had significantly lower FCR than the control group on 60 th and 75 th of trial (p〈0.05). The protein efficiency ratio and specific growth rate of fish fed the isolated bacteria at different times of trial was higher compared to fish fed than control diet. In general, results of intestinal micro flora assessment showed that Lactobacillus bacteria significantly increased in fish fed with dietary probiotic at 30 and 60 of trial (p〈0.05) and groups 2 and 3 showed the greatest amount of Lactobacillus compared to the control group after 30 days of feeding. The results of this study showed that the addition of lactobacillus bacteria isolated from the intestines of Barbus grypus in the diet of common carp increased the beneficial micro flora population of intestinal microflora and ultimately improved growth performance and feed utilization.

    Description: Some biological aspects of yellowfin and skipjack tuna according to catch data of traditional gillnet fisheries were studied in the north of Oman Sea during 1997-99. Based on Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) results, the spawning period or yellowfin begins in spring and reaches to the peak level in May-June. For skipjack tuna, in addition to the above mentioned spawning period, the other observed period was found in autumn-winter with a peak in January-February. The first length or maturity (LM50%) of yellowfin and skipjack tuna females were estimated 76 and 61 cm, respectively. Observation of stomach contents showed that squid was the major components of diet for yellowfin and fish for skipjack tuna. A comparison between mean length of different years and landing sites using two-way analysis of variance indicated a significant differences, The length-weight equations showed an algometric growth in tuna and isometric growth in skipjack.

    Description: In order to investigate the effect of different temperature of anesthetic (clove tree) and recover (anesthetic-free water) solutions on recovery process, The anesthetic induction times and recovery times of 540 fingerlings of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) weighing 3.2 ± 0.2 g in anesthesia/ recovery solutions with cross-combined of temperature of 5,11 and 17 °C as experimental treatments (9 treatments) were compared. The anesthesia was induced by170 ppm of aqueous clove (Eugenia caryophyllata) solution. Results showed that both induction and recovery times were adversely temperature-dependent. Recovery times of treatments, related to temperature of anesthetic solutions and their temperature, were significantly different (P 〈 0.05). Our results indicated that mean recovery time (three temperature treatments) of the fish exposed to the lower temperature anesthetic solutions generally decreased opposing with higher anesthetic solutions. The lowest recovery time (61±11.1 seconds) in17°C anesthetic-free water occurred in fishes induced to 5°C anesthetic solution. In contrast, the highest recovery time (523±154 seconds) in 5°C water happened in fishes induced to 17°C anesthetic solution. Warm and cold thermal difference in anesthetic and recover solutions could extend recovery time 1 up to 8 minutes. Regarding to aim and demanded time, by selected favorite temperatures can control anesthesia/or recovery time in order to prevent the use of drug over-dosing.

    Description: A structure and growth pattern of Squalius cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Tuji tributary of Talar River, Mazandaran Province, was studied during the period from August 2008 till August 2009. In total, 298 fish were caught by electrofishing and fixed in 10% formalin. The weight and length of fish were measured and the age was determinated by scallometric method. The age data showed that fishes were between 0+ to 4+ age groups. Pauli`s applied growth pattern showed a positive alometric for male and female and total fish and a negative isometric for unmature fishes. The average instantaneous growth rate of European Chub showed that the age groups 2+ and 3+ with 1.1 had the fastest growth compare to 3+ and 4+ age groups with 0.89. Condition factor of specimens showed that the highest one with 1.58 (r2 = 0.983) belong to females and the lowest with 1.17 (r2 = 0.901) belong to unmature fishes. The total sex ratio (123 males to 115 females) showed no significant differences between them.
