    Beschreibung: In the frame of the International Polar Year three ozonesonde Match campaigns have been performed, one in the Antarctic and two in the Arctic. Nine stations participated in the Antarctic campaign: Belgrano, Davis, Dome Concordia, Dumont dUrville, Marambio, McMurdo, Neumayer, South Pole and Syowa. The campaign lasted from early June to end of October 2007. Numerous polar and mid-latitude stations participated in both Arctic campaigns. The first one lasted from early January to early April 2007. The second campaign started mid of December 2007 and was ongoing mid of February. We present ozone loss rates deduced from data of all three campaigns. The ozone loss rates in the Antarctic follow in general those of the first Antarctic Match campaign in 2003 reaching 60 to 80 ppb/day in the range 450 K to 500 K during September. The uncertainty is larger compared to 2003 where maximum loss rates around 60 ppb/day were measured. The Arctic winter 2006/07 was a winter with moderate ozone losses compared to losses in former winters of the last two decades. Together with the winter 2007/08 the data add to the large Match data base currently consisting 14 Arctic and 2 Antarctic winters since 1991/92.

    Beschreibung: We examined observations of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) by CALIPSO and of HCl, ClO and HNO3 by MLS along air mass trajectories to investigate the dependence of the inferred PSC composition on the temperature history of the air parcels, and the dependence of the level of chlorine activation on PSC composition. Several case studies based on individual trajectories from the Arctic winter 2009/10 were conducted, with the trajectories chosen such that the first processing of the air mass by PSCs in this winter occurred on the trajectory. Transitions of PSC composition classes were observed to be highly dependent on the temperature history. In cases of a gradual temperature decrease, nitric acid trihydrate (NAT) and super-cooled ternary solution (STS) mixture clouds were observed. In cases of rapid temperature decrease, STS clouds were first observed, followed by NAT/STS mixture clouds. When temperatures dropped below the frost point, ice clouds formed, and then transformed into NAT/STS mixture clouds when temperature increased above the frost point. The threshold temperature for rapid chlorine activation on PSCs is approximately 4 K below the NAT existence temperature, TNAT. Furthermore, simulations of the ATLAS chemistry and transport box model along the trajectories were used to corroborate the measurements and show good agreement with the observations. Rapid chlorine activation was observed when an airmass encountered PSCs. The observed and modelled dependence of the rate of chlorine activation on the PSC composition class was small. Usually, chlorine activation was limited by the amount of available ClONO2. Where ClONO2 was not the limiting factor, a large dependence on temperature was evident.

    Notizen: Multilayered Mo/Si thin films have been prepared by dual rf-magnetron sputtering technique, and the superconducting transition temperature Tc and the upper critical field Hc2 have been examined by resistance measurements. X-ray diffractometry shows that for the modulation wavelength λ shorter than 3 nm both Mo and Si sublayers are amorphous, while for λ longer than 3 nm, crystalline bcc structures appear in Mo sublayers. The λ dependence of Tc of the multilayer films with equal sublayer thickness shows that Tc takes a maximum value of 6.1 K for λ=2.3 nm and approaches the Tc value of amorphous Mo56Si44 in the small λ limit. The superconductivity of the multilayers has been confirmed to result from amorphous MoSi phase formed in the interfacial region of the sublayers. The thickness of the superconducting amorphous layer is estimated to be about 3 nm from the λ dependence of Tc and from the result of the anisotropy of Hc2 . Keeping the Mo sublayer thickness less than 2.4 nm to suppress the appearance of the crystalline Mo and increasing the Si sublayer thickness to reduce the interlayer Josephson coupling, an ideal quasi-two-dimensional superconductor with dHc2(parallel) /dT as high as 180 kOe/K has been realized.

    Notizen: Interdiffusion and interfacial reaction between a sputter-deposited YBa2Cu3Ox thin film and substrates (MgO, sapphire, quartz, and Si) have been investigated by 2.7 MeV 4He+ Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. The diffusivities of Cu in the substrates and of the substrate elements (Mg, Al, and Si) in the Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films have been determined over the annealing temperature range from 876 to 1226 K in an oxygen atmosphere. Among three metallic elements of Y, Ba, and Cu, Cu diffuses the fastest into the substrates. Copper silicide is observed in the interfacial region between the film and the Si substrate. Among these substrates, MgO is suggested to be the most stable on annealing.

    Notizen: Abstract The “paradox of enrichment” predicts that increasing the growth rate of the resource in a resource-consumer dynamic system, by nutrient enrichment, for example, can lead to local instability of the system—that is, to a Hopf bifurcation. The approach to the Hopf bifurcation is accompanied by a decrease in resilience (rate of return to equilibrium). On the other hand, studies of nutrient cycling in food webs indicate that an increase in the nutrient input rate usually results in increased resilience. Here these two apparently conflicting theoretical results are reconciled with a model of a nutrient-limited resource-consumer system in which the tightly recycled limiting nutrient is explicitly modelled. It is shown that increasing nutrient input may at first lead to increased resilience and that resilience decreases sharply only immediately before the Hopf bifurcation is reached.

    Notizen: Summary Retinoblastoma (Rb) occurs in hereditary, non-hereditary, and chromosomal deletion forms and the locus for the Rb gene (Rb-1) is closely linked to the locus for esterase D (ESD) assigned to the chromosome 13q14.11. We describe a patient who was predicted to have Rb from the genetic analysis of the chromosome and ESD phenotype. Furthermore, the gene for lymphocyte cytosol polypeptide with molecular weight of 64,000 (LCP1: McKusick catalogue No. 15343, 1983) was assigned to chromosome 13 by deletion mapping. A 3-month-old female had many characteristics of chromosome 13q-syndrome, including dolichocephaly, epicanthus, ptosis, depressed nasal bridge, micrognathia, short webbed neck, and short fifth fingers with clinodactyly and single crease. The karyotype of the patient was 46,XX,del(13) (q14.1–q32), though both the parents had normal karyotypes. As expected, the phenotype of ESD derived from one of the parents, the father in this case, was not detected in peripheral blood lymphocytes by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (two-DE), indicating that ESD from the father was deleted in the abnormal chromosome 13. The possibility of paternity was calculated to be 0.996 based on the data using 22 genetic markers. Bilateral retinoblastomas could be diagnosed by ophthalmologic examinations before the manifestation of any clinical signs of the tumor and immediately intensive care was taken. In addition, the phenotype of LCP1 derived from the father was not expressed in the lymphocyte proteins from the patient. These data indicate that the gene for LCP1 (LCP1) is located in the region q14.1–q32 of chromosome 13 and may be a useful genetic marker for preclinical diagnosis of Rb.

    Notizen: Abstract Evidence for a delayed acceleration process in solar flares is presented in the form of an analysis of simultaneous observations in microwaves, decimetre and metrewaves, and hard X-rays of six ‘delayed’ gradual bursts which appear 0.5–1 hr after the strong main bursts have faded. The observed characteristics of the delayed bursts are: (a) similarity of flux time profiles at all the wavelengths, (b) low turn-over frequency (∼4 GHz) of the microwave spectrum, (c) moderately strong circular polarization (30–40%) and low altitude of the microwave source (which is displaced toward the disk centre by a projected distance of 10–20″ from that of the preceding main burst), and (d) low spectral index of the energy spectrum of hard X-rays. From these observations it is suggested that (i) electrons are accelerated up to ∼MeV even some tens of minutes after the impulsive phase acceleration has almost ceased, (ii) the delayed acceleration occurs in a large magnetic structure extending to a height of at least 2 × 105 km, and (iii) the radio source has columnar structure with the microwave source predominantly near a leg or legs and the metrewave source near the top of the magnetic structure. The present observations of the delayed bursts do not seem to be consistent with the classical second-phase acceleration mechanism proposed in the past for normal hard X-ray gradual (extended) bursts.

    Notizen: Abstract Nuclear quadrupole resonances (NQR) of139La in La2−xMxCuO4 (M=Ba, Sr) and63Cu in YBa2CU3O7 have been investigated with substitution of Cu by magnetic impurities. For La-system, the strong enhancement of the nuclear relaxation rate, 1/T 1 atT c *≈10 K (suggesting the occurrence of magnetic instability with hole-doping), is suppressed by 3D-antiferromagnetism induced by magnetic impurities. In the superconducting region, fluctuations of Cu moments at low temperatures remain extremely fast as at high temperatures. For Y-system, Fe-ions are substituted for both Cu(1) and Cu(2) sites, But Co-ions are preferentially substituted to Cu1 sites. The peaks in the relaxation rate of Cu indicate the appearance of magnetic ordering without destroying superconductivity for the 0.5%-Fe doped sample.
