Notes: Abstract 57Fe Mőssbauer effect in the perovskite series Sr(Fe1−xTix)Oy (0.0≤x≤0.99; y≤3) at RT and 78K has been analyzed. The influences of the Ti composition on the coexitence of Fe4+ and Fe3+, the ratio of Fe4+ to the total Fe, and the Y value have been studied. When 0≤x≤0.6 the ratio of Fe3+ (II) doublet to the total Fe increases as the final firing temperature increases, agreeing with the result obtained from the positron lifetime measurements. When x≥0.7, the Fe3+ (II) doublet disappears. In the range of x=0.9 and x=0.99, there still exists a considerable content of Fe4+ in samples, disagreeing with the result obtained from the chemical analysis by Clevenger. The relations between the electrical resistivity and the thermistor material constant B of negative temperature characteristic varying with Ti composition have been discussed.

Notes: Abstract The hyperfine field distributions of amorphous Fe40Ni40PxB20−x (x=10, 12, 14, 17) samples before and after different heat treatments have been determined by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. All of these P(H) curves are characterized by a main high field maximum and an additional low field maximum, respectively. The asymmetry of distributions of high field component in P(H) of Fe40Ni40PxB20−x increases progressively from Fe40Ni40P10B10 to Fe40Ni40P17B3. The distributions of low field component in P(H) are affected differently by the annealing temperature. The results indicate that the phospoorus element plays an important role in the hyperfine interactions of amorphous Fe40Ni40PxB20−x The influence of annealing atmosphere has been discussed.

Notes: Abstract The transformation from the as-quenched amorphous to the crystalline states ofFe 47 Ni 32 V 1.5 Si 6 B 13.5 has been studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis. The first step of the transformation is structural relaxation, and upon annealing at above 375°C the magnetic anisotropies with an easy direction parallel to the ribbon plane in its bulk develop. The bulk crystallization starts at 500°C and some metastable crystalline phases were found. At higher temperature, one of metastable crystalline phases α-Fe(Ni) disappeared first. The final products of crystallization were found to be γ-(Fe,Ni), (Fe, V) 2 B and another one which might have little iron atoms.

Notes: Abstract On the basis of our previous work electrical conductivity in the Sr(Fe1−xTix)Oy system (0.0≤x≤0.9,y≤3) has been further studied by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. When 0.0≤x≤0.6, the concentration of Fe3+ (II) doublet relates to the final firing temperature and electrical conductivity of the materials is sensitive to the concentration of Fe3+ (II). Atx=0.25, the curve of the resistivity versus Ti contentx shows a local minimum which is observed for the first time. The results indicate that the coexistence of Fe4+ and Fe3+ in the same lattice leads to high conductivity; the conductivity increases when the Fe4 concentration approaches to that of the Fe3+ one. When the temperature is at 260 K and 230 K, the presence of the intermediate state showing quadrupole splitting has an effect on the conductivity of the materials.

Notes: Abstract A kind of ferroelectrics-ferromagnet mixed ceramics material which ∈≈μ=75 to 80 has been prepared successfully. The original ferroelectrics and ferromagnet materials and the mixed ceramics material have been studied by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy, etc. Mössbauer study indicated the presence of a relaxation effect in the mixed ceramics and the differences of Mössbauer parameters, especially, the hyperfine field distributionsP(H) between the mixed ceramics and the original ferromagnet materials. These results showed that complicated hyperfine interactions exist in mixed ceramics. The sintering temperature has an effect on the cation distribution in mixed ceramics.

Notes: Abstract The relations between the electrical characteristics of BaSn1−x Sb x O3 perovskite system and the contents of BaO, Sb2O3 and silicate sintering agent were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis and Mössbauer spectroscopy. It was found that the electrical conductivity is related to the substitution of Sb3+ for Sn4+, the content of sintering agent and the phase constitutents in samples. BaSnO3, Ba3Sn2O7, Ba2SnO4 and SnO2 phases might appear in different fractions when the contents of BaO change from 0.5 mole to 3.5 mole. In low antimony percentage condition, pentavalent Sb3+ ions inserted in Sn4+ sites and formed the donor center. In high antimony percentage (x≥0.20) condition, the existence of an insulating phase (BaSb2O6) was confirmed.

Notes: Abstract The distribution of hyperfine fields in f.c.c. electrodeposited iron-nickel alloys with composition ranging from 10 to 27 at% Fe has been studied from the observed Mössbauer spectra using a method of analysis developed by Hesse and Rübartsch. The different I2,5/I1,6 values for the different parts of the same component sample indicate that the distribution of the electrical field in bath plays an important role in the spin preferred orientation within electrodeposited layer. The asymmetry in the width of Mössbauer lines has been discussed.

Notes: Abstract 18 Sherds (4500 B.C.–4000 B.C.) unearthed from different archaeological layers at the same place were studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The original firing atmosphere can be deduced from the ratio of the Fe2+ to Fe3+. By comparing the Mössbauer parameters of the original and the refired sherds, we can assess the original firing temperatures.

Notes: Abstract Eleven pieces of ancient Chinese pottery (4770 B.C. – 2960 B.C.) of Yangshao Culture Period collected from the Xi'an area have been studied by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. The samples were refired up to 1100°C in steps of 100°C for 2h in air. The highest temperature up to which the Mössbauer pattern remains basically unchanged can be identified with the original firing temperature. The result indicates that the firing temperatures for most of the sherds were between 900–1000°C. The function of the grit contained in the pottery has been discussed. The crimson and reddish painted materials on the surface of sherds have been studied, respectively. The first appearance of pottery can probably be traced back to an even earlier period.
