Description: Laser welding is a high-energy process used in a wide range of advanced materials to obtain micro- to macro-sized joints in both similar and dissimilar combinations. Moreover, this technique is widely used in several industries, such as automotive, aerospace, and medical industries, as well as in electrical devices. Although laser welding has been used for several decades, significant and exciting innovations often arise from both the process and/or advanced materials side.

Notes: The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of magnesium alloy AZ31Dprocessed by equal channel angular extrusion(ECAE) are studied. The processing temperature and thepasses of extrusion are important factors to affect the microstructure and mechanical properties of themagnesium alloy during ECAE. In this paper, ECAE was performed at the temperature from 523 to673K. The ductility increased through the grain refinement after the ECAE because therecrystallization took place and high angle grain boundary formed. The elongation of magnesiumalloys AZ31D was improved after the ECAE. The maximum elongation-to-failure of magnesiumalloys AZ31D processed by ECAE for 4 passes at 573K and strain rate of0.5 10−4 s−1 × was 350%

Notes: A numerical simulation of superplastic backward extrusion of a magnesium alloy part ispresented in this paper. In fact, the simulated superplastic forming is not a pure superplastic formingbecause of the billet with coarse cylindrical grains. The forming may become a pure superplasticforming only after dynamic recrystallization and grain refinement appear and the grain boundarysliding has been the main deformation mechanism. In order to simulate the special forming process, aconstitutive relation considering dynamic recrystallization and the multiform deform mechanism andthe parameter identification of the constitutive relattion are studied. The program for simulation isable to predict the grain refinement and the transform between different deformation mechanisms. Finally the calculated results on the grain size and dynamic rerystallization are presented. Acomparison between the calculated and the experimental results shows there is a good agreementbetween calculated results and experimental results

Notes: The electronic structure and magnetic properties of rare-earth iron compounds R2Fe17Nx (x=0,3,4) and R2Fe17Cx (x=0,3) (R=Sm,Nd) have been studied by the self-consistent, spin-polarized local spin density functional theory calculations. Several cluster models were used to study the electronic structure of these compounds. For the R2Fe17Nx and R2Fe17Cx (x=0,3), the 9(e) sites in a unit cell are considered as occupied by N or C atoms. The additional N atom in the x=4 case is considered as occupying the 3(b) sites. The distribution of electrons and the magnetic moments for four kinds of crystalline inequivalent Fe atoms, Sm (Nd) and N(C) are calculated. The role of N or C atom in above compounds were discussed.

Notes: The fully self-consistent discrete variational method within the local-spin-density framework has been employed to obtain the electronic structure and magnetic moments of the Mn-containing cubic Laves phase pseudobinary compound of YFe2. The calculated results show that the substitution of Mn atoms on Fe sites weakens the ferromagnetism of this compound. The magnetic moments on distinct atomic sites were derived from the calculation. We found that when the Fe atom has one Mn atom in its nearest neighbor sites, its magnetic moment decreases rapidly, while the Mn moment is 0.71μB, parallel to the Fe moment. Based upon our results, the various experimental data have been satisfactorily explained.

Notes: An experimental study on superplastic forming of a front fender of 5182 aluminum alloy is presented in this paper. Based on the shape characters of the front fender and the material experimental results, dies, heater and temperature controller for superplastic forming of the fender are designed and manufactured. The SPF results show the designed processing and dies are reasonable and feasible

Notes: The manufacturing process of micro-grooves inside thin-walled copper heat-pipe is alwayscomplicated and difficult. Separately adopted GCr15 and W18Cr4V multi-tooth mandrel, a series ofexperiments have been done to machine axially inner micro-grooves of micro-heat-pipe with oil-filledsteel-ball spinning technology to analyze the mandrel effect and failure mechanism. It was studiedhow the tooth-shape of multi-tooth mandrel affects the inner micro-groove shape of the copper tubeand how the working position of multi-tooth mandrel affects groove-wall surface morphology andgroove path. The wear and fracture characteristics of multi-tooth mandrel are introduced. It is provedthat the form of GCr15 mandrel failure in machining micro-grooves is tooth-broken ortooth-collapsed, and its service life is short. Differently, the form of W18Cr4V mandrel failure is feltwear, and its service life is long

Notes: Summary The genetic polymorphism of serum group-specific component (Gc) was studied in two Chinese (Han) populations using isoelectric focusing followed by immunofixation. Six common and seven rare variant phenotypes were observed among 155 samples from Beijing and 256 samples from Guangzhou. The frequencies for the common alleles,Gc * 1F,Gc * 1S, andGc * 2, were 0.4774, 0.2000, and 0.3065, respectively, for Beijing, and 0.4316, 0.2891, and 0.2734, respectively, for Guangzhou. Only the frequency ofGc * 1S showed a statistically significant difference between the two localities. The rare Gc variants observed were: Gc 1A3, Gc 1A8, Gc 1C18 and Gc 2A4. Furthermore, two new rare Gc variants were detected and named Gc 1C50 and Gc 2A19.
