Description: A differentiable function whose contours are orthogonal to potential density (σ) contours does not exist. However, such a function, called potential spicity (π), can be defined in the least square sense; these two functions form a practically orthogonal coordinate system in potential temperature‐salinity (θ‐S) space. Thus, in addition to the classical potential temperature‐salinity (θ‐S) diagram, seawater properties can be studied in the potential density‐potential spicity (σ − π) diagram.

Notes: Since the "open-door" policy was introduced in 1978, China's socio-economic development has been impressive, and the standard of living of its approximately 1.2 billion population has generally improved. However, with the rapid economic development and technological advancement comes the inevitable income and social inequality between urban and rural residents as well as among the populace in different regions of China. The disparity in consumption and shopping patterns between higher income and lower income consumers, as well as the recent deflation and "premature consumption psychology" phenomenon in China, have become major challenges for existing shopping centers, and the development of the retail sector as a whole. Based on official data from 1991 to 1998 and empirical evidence from a 1998/9 study, this paper examines the differences in consumption and shopping patterns among consumers in China and discusses the reasons behind such disparity.

Notes: [Auszug] Genes have a major role in the control of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. Here we have identified two Tangier disease (TD) families, confirmed 9q31 linkage and refined the disease locus to a limited genomic region containing the gene encoding the ATP-binding cassette ...

    Notes: Abstract If the vertically-mixing time is comparable with that of period oscillatory current, the contaminant contraction may occur. The coefficient of shear dispersion is negative (singularity). According to the two-dimensional delay-diffusion equation derived by the author[7]: $$\begin{gathered} \frac{{\partial \bar C}}{{\partial t}} + \bar u\frac{{\partial \bar C}}{{\partial x}} + \bar v\frac{{\partial \bar C}}{{\partial y}} = \bar K_{zz} \frac{{\partial ^2 \bar C}}{{\partial x^2 }} + \bar K_{yy} \frac{{\partial ^2 \bar C}}{{\partial y^2 }} + \int_0^\infty {\left[ {\frac{\partial }{{\partial \tau }}} \right.} D_{zz} \frac{{\partial ^2 }}{{\partial x^2 }} \hfill \\ \left. { + \frac{\partial }{{\partial \tau }}\left( {D_{zy} + D_{yz} } \right)\frac{{\partial ^2 }}{{\partial x\partial y}} + \frac{\partial }{{\partial \tau }}D_{yy} \frac{{\partial ^2 }}{{\partial y^2 }}} \right]\bar C\left( {x - X,y - Y,t - \tau } \right)d\tau \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ where $$\bar u\left( t \right),\bar v\left( t \right)$$ are vertically-averaged velocities, the equations for X(t), Y(t), central displacement, dispersion tensor, had been derived. ∂Dij/∂τ is positive when τ is small. If the τ is large, the memory functions may be negative. Also the expressions for Dij and X, Y had been obtained.

Notes: Abstract It is a wrong viewpoint that the turbulence closure problem is due to the non-linearity of N-S equation, because if we omit the non-linear terms in N-S equation, many physical quantities can not be obtained other than the mean-values. In this paper, we proof that the closure problem of turbulence be induced by lack of statistical distribution in present turbulence theory. And the restriction of turbulence model theory and shortcoming of direct numerical simulation of N-S to solve the turbulence have been pointed out.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, based on the discussion of properties of the turbulent coherent structure for smooth boundary layer, a physical model has been established. The width of slowly-moving streak line and bursting time of coherent structure expressed by momentum thickness Reynolds number of boundary layer have been obtained, which are in agreement with the experimental data[3,4,5,7]

Notes: Abstract In this paper, using the PLK method and reductive perturbation method, we obtained the second approximation to cnoidal waves at the free surface and interface for the two-fluid system considered in [1]. The corresponding results in [3] and [4] may be obtained as special cases in this paper.
