Notes: The delamination cracks and its effects on the fracture of pipeline steel are investigatedexperimentally by using of Drop-Weight Tear Test (DWTT). The delamination cracks are producedby the stress perpendicular to the weak interfaces before main crack beginning or accelerating, no newdelamination crack is produced during the stabile propagation of fracture. The quantity, splay degreeof delamination crack and the space between two delamination cracks are influenced by the stressstate of the crack tip at beginning or accelerating point of main crack and the length of delaminationcrack is influenced by the stress state of the crack tip during the propagation of fracture. The surface ofdelamination crack is cleavage fracture appearance with large cleavage facet. There is nodelamination crack on the brittle fracture surface below the brittle-to-ductile temperature or on thebrittle fracture region of mix-mode fracture surface with ductile and brittle region. The part of fracturesurfaces with delamination crack ought to be evaluated as the shear area because the delaminationcracks are produced only on the ductile fracture surface or on the ductile part of fracture surface

Notes: The correlation between machining performance and mechanical properties of Y-TZP/Al2O3ceramics with different mechanical parameters was investigated. The grinding experiments indicated thatthe flexural strength had a definite influence on machining performance of samples. The higher theflexural strength was, the more difficult the sample was to be ground. XRD analysis showed that anincreasing amount of the monoclinic ZrO2 would reduce the flexural strength of the samples. As a result, the grinding force that the samples underwent also decreased

Notes: Single or multiple of delaminations have been found frequently on the fracture surface ofX70 pipeline steel. In this study, the delamination cracks and their influence on the fracture ofpipeline are investigated by both experiment and three-dimensional fracture analyses. It is shown thatthe three-dimensional stress state is prerequisite for delamination crack and the strength distributionof material influences the form and direction of delamination crack. The delamination cracks areproduced on the weak interfaces among the material by the tensile stress perpendicular to them beforethe fracture passes. The direction of delamination crack depends on the three-dimensional stress fieldsand strength distribution of material near the crack tip or notch root. The delamination cracks of thefracture through thickness of pipe wall make the effective thickness decrease and the delaminationcracks of surface crack are perpendicular to the direction of fracture propagation direction. Thedelamination cracks reduce the stress triaxiality near crack tip and in turn, improve the fracturetoughness of X70 pipeline steel

Notes: To study the effect of second sintering on intragranular structure and mechanical properties of10vol%Al2O3/3Y-TZP composites, the composites were prepared by ball-milling nano-γ-Al2O3 andnano-ZrO2(3mol%Y2O3), pressing unidirectionally, cold-pressing isostatically, then first sintering at1400°C for 2h and second sintering at 1600°C for 5h in air. The composition and microstructure of thecomposites were examined by X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope, transmissionelectron microscope. The results showed that the second sintering changed the microstructure andfracture mode. After second sintering, the structure of fine grains was changed into the mixed one of largegrains and small grains . Many large grains contained small grains, forming intragranular stucture thatcould be produced by the interblending of not only Al2O3 and ZrO2 but also ZrO2 itself. The intergranularfracture after first sintering was changed into transgranular fracture and intergranular fracture after secondsintering . The second sintering led to grinds growing up and intragranular forming, which enhanced thecontribution of the phase transformation toughening. Although the second sintering resulted in abnormalincrease of grain size, the fracture strength and the fracture toughness of the composite were 667 MPa and12.9 MPa⋅m1/2, respectively, due to the intragranular structure and the enhanced phase transformationtoughening

Notes: The Charpy V notch specimens of X70 pipeline steel with different notch orientation aretested under the static and dynamic conditions at different temperatures. By analyzing the load versusdisplacement curves and fracture appearances of specimens the relation of fracture behavior andloading rate is investigated. The maximum load increases and the displacement corresponding tomaximum load reduces with test temperature decreasing. Both under the static conditions are largerthan that under the dynamic conditions. The fracture sections of all test specimens are reduced in thethickness direction and quantity reduced depends on the load rate, notch orientation and testtemperature. At the higher temperature, delamination cracks are found on the fracture surface bothunder the static and dynamic conditions, which are perpendicular to the thickness direction in T-Lspecimen and perpendicular to the main crack propagation direction in T-S specimen. Influence ofloading rate on the delamination crack size and amount is obvious. The fracture initiation energy andtotal fracture energy increase with test temperature increasing. Influence of loading rate on the totalfracture energy is unobvious at the higher temperature, but is obvious at the lower temperature. So theloading rate effects on total fracture energy are relevant to test temperature and notch orientation

Notes: Co-Sn substituted barium ferrite particles, BaFe12−2xCoxSnxO19 (0≤x≤1.4), have been investigated using x-ray, VSM, and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The magnetocrystalline-anisotropy constant has been determined as a function of x from an analysis of the approach to magnetic saturation. Mössbauer spectra indicate that Co2+ and Sn4+ ions have a strong preference for the 2b, 4fVI, and 12k sites. The reduced anisotropy constants k=K1(x)/K1(0) have been calculated based on the single-ion model and the site preferences and agree well with the measured values. The origin of the magnetic changes caused by Co2+ and Sn4+ substitution can be attributed to the site preferences.

Notes: A model of magnetization reversal for the chain of two oblate ellipsoids is proposed. The magnetization loops, the angular dependencies of coercivity Hc and the critical field H0 were calculated with the considerations of the uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy, the shape anisotropy, as well as the interaction anisotropy of the ellipsoids. The results show that for small anisotropic factor ω(=2K1/M2s), the magnetization reversal of the chain is inclinable to the fanning process, while for the large one, the reversal to parallel rotation process. When the crystalline anisotropy of the ellipsoids was considered, the coercivity of the chain of two oblate ellipsoids was larger than that of Jacobs and Bean's chain of two spheres by a factor of (1+6ω/π) for fanning process and of (1+2ω/π) for parallel rotation process. When ω equals 0 and the ellipsoids become spheres, the results of the model become those of Jacobs and Bean's model of chain of two spheres. The results show also that the effect of the crystalline anisotropy on the magnetization reversal of the chain is larger than that of interaction anisotropy. This model could be used to explain the magnetization reversal mechanism of the oriented Ba-ferrite particulate media.

Notes: La–Zn substituted Sr-ferrite thin films were prepared by rf diode sputtering. The magnetic and crystallographic properties of the films were investigated by vibrating sample magnetometry and x-ray diffractometry. It is found that the texture of the films sensitively depends on the amount of substitution. Both the saturation magnetization Ms and coercivity Hc increase with the increase of La–Zn substitution. The increase of Hc is caused, in part, by the increase of K1 due to the substitution. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: La–Zn substituted M type Sr-ferrite thin films were prepared by conventional rf diode sputtering. The crystallography, surface morphology, magnetic properties, and their temperature dependence were investigated by x-ray diffractometry, atomic force microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. La–Zn substitution reduces the grain growth rate, so that it was possible to obtain fine grains with mean grain size about 12 nm×12 nm. Suitable amount of La–Zn substitution increases the saturation magnetization Ms of the films without changing the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the material. As a result, the coercivity Hc increases with the increase of the La–Zn substitution. La–Zn substitution also reduces the values of dHc/dT of the films in the vicinity of room temperature. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
