Abstract:
Notes:
Summary Those properties of a silica gel which are the causes of a chromatographic separation effect can be varied extensively by the conditions of precipitation. It is thus possible to adapt a silica gel to a particular separation problem, although it is not possible to obtain a sepcific adsorption in this way. A separation effect can be caused only by the molecular sieve effect. A mixture of the isomeric naphthalene-monosulphonic acids is best separated on a silica gel precipitated with 2-naphthalene-sulphonic acid.
