Summary The surface temperatures of the North Sea are essentially influenced by the current weather conditions. Larger changes in the courses of the surface temperatures during winter 1992/93 are correlated to the different weather periods. As in previous years, the temperature development during the winter of 1992/93 at five selected points in the North Sea will be discussed. The weekly surface temperature charts (t o-charts) of the Bundesamt für Seeschiffahrt und Hydrographie serve as the data base; the weather charts of the Zentralamt Offenbach of the German Weather Service (Anon. [1992, 1993]) and Seifert [1992, 1993] provide the weather conditions. The lowest surface temperatures given in thet o-charts, their commencement times and deviations from long-term means are given. The forecast of the bottom water temperatures in deeper areas of the North Sea for the late summer of 1993, considered by the course of the spring warming process, is mentioned.

Zusammenfassung Die Oberflächentemperaturen der Nordsee werden wesentlich durch den aktuellen Wetterablauf bestimmt. Größere Änderungen des Oberflächentemperaturverlaufs des Winterhalbjahres 1992/93 lassen sich den verschiedenen Witterungsabschnitten zuordnen. Wie in den vergangenen Jahren werden die Temperaturentwicklungen des Winterhalbjahres 1992/93 an fünf ausgewählten Punkten der Nordsee diskutiert. Dabei dienen die wöchentlichen Oberflächentemperaturkarten (t o-Karten) des Bundesamtes für Seeschiffahrt und Hydrographie als Datenbasis; den Wetterkarten des Zentralamtes Offenbach des Deutschen Wetterdienstes (Anon. [1992; 1993]) und Seifert [1992; 1993] sind die Wetterbläufe entnommen. Die niedrigsten Oberflächentemperaturen und ihre Eintrittszeiten, wie sie in dent o-Karten während dieser Zeit auftraten, und die Abweichungen von langjährigen Mitteln werden dargestellt. Auf die Vorhersage der Bodenwassertemperaturen in den tieferen Nordseegebieten im Spätsommer 1993 aufgrund des Verlaufs der Frühjahrserwärmung wird verwiesen.
