Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
In addition to the already known 2-(2-thienylmethylene)-1,6-dioxaspiro[4.5]dec-3-ene (1), a hitherto unknown thienyl-substituted spiroacetal enol ether was isolated from the subterranean parts of Artemisia ludoviciana, the structure of which was elucidated as the dimeric derivative 2. Compound 2 is characterized by a hydroxybutyl side chain (instead of the oxane ring of the spiro system) and a direct link between the thienyl ring of one moiety with the oxolene ring of the second moiety. Optical resolution on triacetyl cellulose revealed that 1 is a racemate and that 2 is a diastereomeric mixture of two enantiomeric pairs [(RR), (SS); (RS), (RS)]. These results were confirmed by MS, 1H-NMR, 1H lanthanide-induced shifts, and CD.
