Notes: Abstract. Intravenous injection of a single dose of colchicine into inbred strains of BALB/c and CFW/L1 mice and into WAG rats did not effect rapid intramedullar bone formation and resorption, as has been claimed by the research group from Tokyo Medical and Dental University [14–17]. The applied doses of colchicine arrested metaphase during the first 4 hours postadministration and were noxious for hemopoietic tissue (necrosis of bone marrow was evident in 2 and 4 day specimens), but on longitudinal, serial sections of long bones there was no evidence of stimulation of osteogenesis at any point in time (2–26-day specimens). It is postulated that the system of ectopic osteogenesis by colchicine injection is not reproducible in mice and WAG rats, and the apparently osteogenic effect of colchicine, observed by the Ogura group [14–17], was mistakenly described as congenital osteopetrosis.

Notes: Abstract Human epithelial tissue culture line cells (“K” line) were injected into the leg or abdominal wall muscle, or subcutaneously, in cortisone-conditioned rats. Cartilage and/or bone was induced readily in either of the muscular sites, but not subcutaneously.

Notes: Abstract Using Anti Mouse Lymphocytic Serum as an immunosuppressor instead of steroid hormones, bone induction was obtained in mice grafted with K xenogenic-established epithelial cell line. The results suggest that bone induction in this experimental system is not dependent upon steroid hormones.

Notes: Abstract Cartilage and bone induction evoked by xenogenic grafts of WISH cells possesses neither generic nor species specificity. No induction was obtained in mice when WISH cells were grafted subcutaneously. Human fibroblasts transformed into CLV-J3 epithelioid cells acquire inductive properties. Hydrocortisone used as an immunosupressive in large doses enables WISH cells grafted into mice to survive, but in contrast to cortisone treated animals, small amounts of hyaline cartilage only were obtained and only in half the animals.

Notes: Summary The relative number of mast cells in the ear lobes' skin (pinna) of nude (athymic) nu/nu and normal (thymic) nu/+ heterozygotes of Balb/c mice was similar. The results obtained contradict some suggestions about the general influence of the thymus on the number of mast cells in the skin and suggest the existence of some local factor(s) in regulation of skin mast cell numbers.

Notes: Summary The absolute number of mast cells in regional lymph nodes decreases on the 5th day after stimulation by allogeneic lymphocytes and semisyngeneic leukaemic cells, despite the enlargement of stimulated lymph nodes. It is postulated that the reaction of lymphatic mast cells could be a sensitive test for tissue incompatibility, and probably also for the presence of tumor associated antigens.

Notes: [Auszug] Inbred 5-week-old NMRI mice of both sexes were inoculated into left shanks with 0.2 ml of standard M-MSV diluted 1:5 in phosphate-buffered saline. The virus was prepared according to Chanaille et al.13 (IO3 TID50 in 0.2ml). Mice were killed at various intervals between the 3rd and 190th days after ...
