The book of the historian-journalist S.F. Vinogradov is dedicated to the famous Soviet polar explorer G.A.Ushakov. The creation of the first settlement on Wrangel Island and a three-year winter stay there would have been enough for Ushakov's name to remain forever in the history of Arctic exploration. But he was also the organizer of the Severozemelskaya expedition, which in a short time in the most difficult conditions explored and mapped the vast archipelago - Severnaya Zemlya. Ushakov participated in the rescue of the Chelyuskinites and in the first high-latitude expedition on the icebreaker 'Sadko'. He also did a lot to turn the Northern Sea Route into a functioning waterway. The book is intended for the general reader.
