Notes: Abstract Let A be a finite Hopf algebra over a commutative ring k. We show a one-to-one correspondence between the A-Galois extensions of k and certain functors from the category of A-comodules to the category of k-modules.

Notes: Abstract Let A be a commutative Hopf algebra over a field k; the k-valued fibre functors on the category of finite dimensional A-comodules correspond to Spec(A)-torsors over k as was shown by Saavedra Rivano and Deligne-Milne. We prove a non-commutative version of this result by using methods developed in a previous paper [5] for the case of finite Hopf algebras over a commutative ring. We also exhibit right adjoints for fibre functors under the assumption that the antipode is bijective.

Notes: Summary Dilute solutions of poly(N-butyl methacrylamide) in methanol, dimethylformamide, and cyclohexanone were investigated by light scattering, osmometry and viscometry. From the intrinsic viscosity data, the characteristic ratio, C∞=9.9, was estimated. This value is compared with those for other N-substituted polyacrylamides. In this paper we report on the solution properties of poly (N-butyl methacrylamide) (PBMAm) prepared by radical-initiated polymerization, namely, its solubility, determination of the molecular weight by light scattering and osmometry, correlation of the intrinsic viscosity with the molecular weight, and the configurational characteristics of the chain.

Notes: Summary The temperature dependence of the swelling and mechanical behaviour of two poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) networks has been investigated in aqueous solutions at pH ≈ 7.5. While one network was prepared by the copolymerization of N,N-diethylacrylamide with N,N′ -methyl-enebisacrylamide in the presence of 92 vol 1.% water, 3 mol.% sodium methacrylate was added to the mixture used in the preparation of the second network. In the network without charges on the chain, both the swelling ratio and modulus were found to be continuously dependent on temperature. On the other hand, the ionized network containing sodium methacrylate showed a pronounced phase transition at the temperature T ≈ 51 °C connected with a jumpwise change in both the volume and modulus of the network.

Notes: The radical copolymerization of 14C-labelled N-ethylacrylamide with N-ethylmethacrylamide, N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide and N-butylmethacrylamide in dimethylsulphoxide at 60°C was investigated. The copolymerization of N-ethylacrylamide with N-butylmethacrylamide was also studied in dimethylformamide and methanol. The results show that the structure of the alkyl group bonded to the amide nitrogen does not affect the reactivity of the compounds under investigation to any considerable extent. The solvent exhibits a somewhat stronger influence upon the copolymerization parameters. Because of the similar structure of both comonomers the copolymerization parameters will be affected by the solvent only as a result of the different dependence of the reactivity of N-ethylacrylamide and N-butylmethacrylamide on the character of the medium.

Notes: The paper reports and investigation of the kinetics of the radical polymerization of 2,4-pentadiene-1-ol in bulk and in various solvents (dimethylsulphoxide, dimethylformamide). The structure of polymers crosslinked with ethylenedimethacrylate was characterized by measurements of the mechanical behaviour in the rubbery state.

Notes: The homopolymer of N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) and copolymers of HPMA differing in oligopeptide side chains (-Gly-Gly-OH;-Acap-Phe-OH;-Acap-Leu-HMDA and -Gly-Phe-Tyr-OH) or in their content (1.0, 3.5 and 8.4 mol. % of -Gly-Gly-OH side chains)Abbreviations see appropriate Tables and Figures. were investigated with respect to their ability to induce antibody formation in inbred strains of mice. The dependence on the antigen dose on structure of the side chains and on the genetic background of the immunized organism was defined. It was demonstrated that the specificity of the antibody formed is predominantly directed against oligopeptide side chains though some part of the produced antibody is against hydroxypropyl groups. Haptens, such as arsanilic acid and fluorescein isothiocyanate, modifying the side chains, were used as drug models, and their influence on immunogenicity of HPMA copolymers was tested. The HPMA copolymers can be considered as a possible targetable drug delivery system as conditions were found under which the specific antibodies attached to them can damage the target site.

Notes: In our earlier papers1-4 we reported on the biocompatibility of esters and substituted amides of methacrylic and acrylic acids which are suitable for the development of specific biological functions.5 The results described in these papers1-4 enabled some relationships to be formulated which exist between the chemical and physical structure of the implants, on the one hand, and the process of their healing-in and calcification, on the other.6.A number of biological applications require materials having rubber-like mechanical properties. With this aim we started in our laboratory the development of hydrophilic elastomers based on dienes containing hydrophilic groups. Poly(2,4-pentadiene-1-ol)7 was the first polymer of this type obtained which had mechanical properties suited for biomedical applications. Its biocompatibility with living tissue is reported in this paper.
