Conclusions 1. Calculations of the SS of sectional composite flywheels show that their durability is good and their energy capacity (17–20 J/g) is sufficiently high for large structures of this type. 2. The energy capacity of composite flywheels can be further increased only by devising and using vertical converted synchronous machines with a rotational frequency of 3000–6000 rpm. 3. The increased imbalance of composite flywheels with large diameter requires the use of free suspension in magnetic bearings which leads to self-centering of the unbalanced flywheel.
