Abstract On the treatment of cotton with Triazophos both in the greenhouse and the field trial (Spain), this material, hitherto shown suitable to this practice, demonstrated longer activity in the greenhouse than in the field. Under these conditions in the field trial low residues of Triazophos, 1-phenyl-3-hydroxy-1,2,4-triazol and an as yet unidentified metabolite have been found in cotton and cotton seed. By experiment this metabolite, as well as 1-phenyl-3-hydroxy-1,2,4-triazol, was not found to be a cholinesterase inhibitor. It will be presumed to be a des-ethyl compound of Triazophos. Further studies showed that roots from moist ground would absorb much less Triazophos than those from a culture solution. For cotton the relationship was ca. 1∶15.
