Rigid PVC is used in applications requiring long term performance and is sometimes produced under non-optimal conditions, so that an understanding of the processing variables that affect long-term performance needs to be obtained. In this study, injection molding parameters were varied according to a statistically designed plan to permit construction of predictive equations for creep rupture, flexural fatigue, and environmental stress cracking. The results show that these properties are strong functions of melt temperature, PVC compound formulation, and of the polymer structure formed during molding.
