Description: The regional research network Water in Central Asia (CAWa) funded by the German Federal Foreign Office consists of 18 remotely operated multi-parameter stations (ROMPSs) in Central Asia. These stations were installed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam, Germany, in close cooperation with the Central-Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; the national hydrometeorological services in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan; the Ulugh Beg Astronomical Institute in Tashkent, Uzbekistan; and the Kabul Polytechnic University, Afghanistan. The primary objective of these stations is to support the establishment of a reliable data basis of meteorological and hydrological data especially in remote areas with extreme climate conditions for applications in climate and water monitoring in Central Asia. Up to now, 10 years of data have been provided for an area of scarce station distribution and with limited open-access data which can be used for a wide range of scientific or engineering applications. The data described in this paper are made publicly available with the digital object identifier (DOI) https://doi.org/10.5880/GFZ.1.2.2020.002 (Zech et al., 2020) or via the Sensor Data Storage System (SDSS) at http://sdss.caiag.kg (last access: 22 February 2021).

    Description: Abstract
Description: The dataset contains waveform data of shallow seismic profiles at two locations in the western part of the Alai valley, Kyrgyzstan. At each location a “long” profile (~5 km and ~2.5 km length, respectively) and one or two short profiles (~120 m and ~250 m) were acquired, centered on known or presumed tectonic faults. As sources, a trailer-mounted weight drop and a hammer were used. The measurements were part of the CaTeNA project. Within the sub-project "The recent deformation in the Pamir based on seismic and geodetic data, dynamic landslide-susceptibility and risk analysis, and seismic imaging of the North Pamir Thrust", which forms part of the international and interdisciplinary CaTeNA project (Climatic and Tectonic Natural Hazards in Central Asia), shallow seismic profiling at two locations has been carried out in the Alai Valley, southern Kyrgyzstan, to investigate the spatio-temporal evolution of the Pamir Frontal Thrust (PFT). Eight seismic profiles were acquired in September 2019 at two locations in the western part of the Alai valley, (1) in the village of Achyk Suu and b) at the Koman fault (SSW of the village of Kashka Suu). At each location a long profile (5 and 2.5km, respectively) and one or two short profiles (~250m) across interesting (presumed) fault structures were acquired.

    Description: Abstract
Description: We propose to investigate the structure and evolution of the Main Pamir Thrust (MPT) with a high-density seismological array. The MPT, with its surface expression along the east-west trending Alai Valley, marks the northern boundary of the Pamir. The Alai Valley, separating the Pamir and the Tien Shan, constitutes the last vestige of a formerly continuous basin that linked the Tarim and the Tajik Basins. The MPT manifests itself as a place of high seismic activity with frequently occurred disastrous earthquakes. The array is about 50 km long, consisted of 90 three-component geophones (stations G?? and C??) and 10 Trillium-Compact seismometers (stations T??), and equipped with 100 CUBE dataloggers. We will construct a high-resolution receiver function profile to image the MPT and accurately locate the local earthquakes associated with the MPT. Funded by BMBF, within the framework of CaTeNA project – Climatic and Tectonic Natural Hazards in Central Asia. Waveform data are available from the GEOFON data centre, under network code 7A and are embargoed until Jan 2024.

    Description: Abstract
Description: Main aim of the project was to investigate the local seismicity (distribution and kinematics) within and around the Fergana basin and the Southern Tien Shan in Southern Kyrgistan. In order to achieve this goal a temporary local network was installed between 2009 and 2010. The results derived from this project contributed to decipher the relationship between geodynamics, neotectonic block structures and the occurrence of landslides in this region. Waveform data is available from the GEOFON data centre, under network code 6C, and is fully open.
