Abstract Vacuum heating of the layered compounds of lithium–aluminium double hydroxide pillared with copper, cobalt, and nickel complexes of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) was shown to give rise to composite materials containing in the lamellar aluminate matrix nanosized metal particles stable to oxidation. High-resolution electron microscopy (HREM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) were used to determine the morphology of the resulting products. Their magnetic properties were studied by magnetic weighing.
