    Description / Table of Contents: Resumé On examine le problème d'une inclusion rigide de form elliptique soumise à une translation axiale. Cette inclusion est située à l'interface d'un milieu élastique bi-matériel à isotropie transversale et elle est en contact lié avec se dernier. La rigidité de l'inclusion elliptique est exprimée par un ensemble de limites et la forme exacte de ces limites à été obtenue en imposant des contraintes de déplacement et traction à l'interface du bi-matériau.
    Notes: Abstract The present paper examines the problem related to the axial translation of a rigid elliptical disc inclusion which is embedded in bonded contact at the interface of a transversely isotropic bi-material elastic medium. The result for the stiffness of the elliptical disc inclusion is presented in the form of a set of bounds. These bounds are developed, in exact closed form, by imposing displacement and traction constraints at the bi-material interface.

    Notes: Abstract The present paper examines the problem of the axial loading of a rigid circular punch which is located at the debonded boundary of an elastic medium-rigid boundary interface. The mathematical analysis of the problem focusses primarily on the evaluation of the load-displacement response for the punch boundary of the debonded region. The numerical results presented in the paper illustrate the manner in which the axial stiffness of the punch is influenced by the Poisson's ratio of the elastic medium and the relative dimensions of the debonded region.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird das folgende Problem untersucht: Eine starre runde Scheibe ist in festem Kontakt in einem unbegrenzten isotopen elastischen Raum eingeschlossen; eine konzentrierte Kraft greift an einem äußeren Punkt an in der Ebene der Scheibe. Die Verschiebung und die Drehung der Scheibe (für seitlich verschobene Belastung) werden in geschlossener Form angegeben. Weiterhin wird gezeigt, daß die Resultate auch mit Hilfe von Betti's Reziprozitäts-Theorem erhalten werden können, wobei das Hilfsproblem dem direkt belasteten Fall entspricht.
    Notes: Abstract In this paper we examine the problem of the interaction between a rigid circular disc inclusion embedded in bonded contact with an isotropic elastic infinite space and a concentrated force which acts at an exterior point on the plane of the inclusion. The results for the displacement and rotation of the disc inclusion induced by the laterally placed load are evaluated in exact closed form. Furthermore, it is shown that these results may also be recovered by appeal to Betti's reciprocal theorem in which the auxiliary problem corresponds to the directly loaded inclusion.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird das Problem der Spannungskonzentration an einem Defekt in einem einachsig mit Fasern verstärkten Komposit untersucht. Der Defekt entspricht einem elliptisch-sphärischen Gebiet mit Fasern, welche durch die Defektfläche hindurch stetig verlaufen. Der Körper wird durch ein Spannungsfeld in Richtung der Fasern einachsig belastet. Ein exakter Lösungsansatz führt zum Spannungskonzentrationsfaktor an der Oberfläche des verstärkten Defektes. Typische numerische Resultate illustrieren den Einfluß des Volumen- und Modulverhältnisses zwischen Fasern und Matrix sowie der Defektgeometrie auf die Spannungskonzentration.
    Notes: Abstract This paper examines the problem of the stress concentration at a flaw in a unidirectional fibre reinforced composite. The geometry of the flaw corresponds to a spheroidal region in which the reinforcing fibres exhibit continuity across the flaw surface. The composite containing the flaw is subjected to a uniaxial stress field which acts along the fibre direction. An exact solution is devoloped for the stress concentration factor at the reinforced flaw boundary. Typical numerical results presented in the paper illustrate the manner in which the stress concentration at the bridged flaw is influenced by the fibre volume fraction, the fibre-matrix modular ratio and the flaw geometry.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht das axisymmetrische Problem der axialen Verschiebung einer starren eingebetteten Kreisscheibe mit bestimmter Dicke, die in einer reibungslosen pfennigförmigen Spalte eingekeilt ist. Ergebnisse für die axiale Steifigkeit der eingebetteten Scheibe und der Druckintensitätsfaktor am Rande der pfennigförmigen Spalte sind als eine genaue geschlossene Lösung angegeben.

    Notes: Abstract The paper examines the problem related to the axisymmetric interaction between an external circular crack and a centrally placed penny-shaped rigid inclusion located in the plane of the crack. The interface between the inclusion and the elastic medium exhibits a Mindlin-type imperfect bi-lateral contact. Analytical results presented in the paper illustrate the manner in which the lateral translational stiffness of the inclusion and the stress intensity factor at the boundary of the external circular crack are influenced by the inclusion/crack radii ratio.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, the Reissner-Sagoci problem for a half-space with a surface constraint is considered. The problem is reduced to the triple integral equation by use of integral transforms. The triple integral equations are solved for small values of parameters characterizing the geometry of the problem. An expression for the torque required to rotate the disc through a fixed angle is obtained.
