Summary In the course of petrofabric analysis investigations at old copper deposits occurring in low grade, epizonal, metamorphosed early paleozoic sediments of the North Tyrolean Greywacke Zone, criteria were found for a hydrothermal-sedimentary origin of these deposits connected with basic submarine volcanic action. Taking the chalcopyrite deposits Kelchalpe-Bachalpe-Wildalpe (Southeast of Kitzbühel) as an example, the following criteria for a primary, early paleozoic mineral enrichment are mentioned. 1. The mineralized horizons are conformable over long distances with the accompanying bedrock. A quartzite band contains chalcopyrite, pyrite, and ankerite as an essentially primary mineral paragenesis. 2. Characteristic tuffitic rocks accompanying the orebody occur in thick sericitic phyllites which, in parts, are sandy. 3. Where mineralization is low grade, these accompanying rocks alternate with the mineralized quartzite bands. 4. Tectonic plastic deformation affects both, the ore bodies and the accompanying rocks whereby the varying reaction to strength makes itself clearly felt in both, small and large units. 5. Later tension fractures intersecting both, bedding planes and schistosity are filled with quartz, ankerite and ore minerals which is proof of re-deposition. The fracture fillings show post crystalline deformation. 6. Shear fractures displace both, the orebodies and the accompanying rocks.
Notes:
6. Scherklüfte verstellen Erzlager und Begleitgesteine.
