    Description / Table of Contents: The Diastereomeric 2-AminocyclobutanolsSyntheses of the previously unknown 2-aminocyclobutanols are described. The cis-isomer (5) is obtained in two steps by photosensitized cycloaddition of 4-oxazolin-2-one (1) or its acetyl derivative 2 to ethylene and subsequent alkaline hydrolysis of the adducts. Synthesis of the trans-isomer (6) is achieved by catalytic hydrogenation of trans-2-azidocyclobutanol (19), which is available in two steps from the cyclic orthobenzoate 12 and -acetate 13, resp., of cis-1,2-cyclobutanediol (11).
    Notes: Synthesen der diastereomeren 2-Aminocyclobutanole werden erstmals beschrieben. Das cis-Isomere (5) erhält man in zwei Stufen durch photosensibilisierte Cycloaddition von 4-Oxazolin-2-on (1) bzw. dessen Acetyl-Derivat 2 an Ethylen und folgende alkalische Hydrolyse der Addukte. Das trans-Isomere (6) ist durch katalytische Hydrierung des trans-2-Azidocyclobutanols (19) zugänglich, das man in zwei Stufen aus dem cyclischen Orthobenzoat 12 bzw. -acetat 13 des cis-1,2-Cyclobutandiols (11) gewinnt.

    Description / Table of Contents: cis-1,2-Cyclobutanediamines by Photosensitized Cycloaddition of 1,3-Diacetyl-4-imidazolin-2-ones to Olefins1,3-Diacetyl-4-imidazolin-2-one (8) reacts photosensitized with ethylene in a [2 + 2]-cycloaddition reaction yielding 9. Hydrolysis of 9 leads to cis-1,2-cyclobutanediamine (1) via the cyclic urea 2. By analogy, derivatives of 1 can be obtained using other olefins or alkyl substituted 1,3-diacetyl-imidazolinones (23 and 24).
    Notes: 1,3-Diacetyl-4-imidazolin-2-on (8) reagiert photosensibilisiert mit Ethylen in einer [2 + 2]-Cyclo-addition unter Bildung von 9. Dessen Hydrolyse führt über den Harnstoff 2 zum cis-1,2-Cyclobutandiamin (1). Analog lassen sich mit anderen Olefinen oder alkylsubstituierten 1,3-Diacetyl-imidazolinonen (23 und 24) Derivate von 1 herstellen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Diels-Alder Reactions with 3-Acetyl-4-oxazolin-2-one3-Acetyl-4-oxazolin-2-one (4) is a new component for thermal [2 + 4]-cycloadditions. 4 reacts selctively with cyclic 1,3-dienes with formation of the endo-isomers. The cycloadducts can be deacetylated to the corresponding oxazolidin-2-one derivatives or further hydrolyzed to the cis-2-aminoalcohols. In the additions to 1,3-cyclohexadiene, 4 and the structurally related compounds vinylene carbonate and 1,3-diacetyl-4-imidazolin-2-one exhibit comparable dienophilic reactivity.
    Notes: 3-Acetyl-4-oxazolin-2-on (4) ist ein neuer Partner für thermische [2 + 4]-Cycloadditionen. Mit cyclischen 1,3-Dienen reagiert 4 selektiv unter Bildung der endo-Isomeren. Die Cycloaddukte lassen sich zu den entsprechenden oxazolidin-2-on-Derivaten entacetylieren oder weiter zu den cis-2-Aminoalkoholen hydrolysieren. Bei der Addition an 1,3-Cyclohexadien sind 4 und die strukturell verwandten Verbindungen Vinylencarbonat sowie 1,3-Diacetyl-4-imidazolin-2-on vergleichbar reaktive Dienophile.
