Description / Table of Contents:
The formation of the thiospinels MnCr2S4, ZnCr2S4 and CdCr2S4 by solid state reaction of MnS, ZnS and CdS with Cr2S3 was investigated by electrical conductivity measurements. The conductivity of at constant temperature annealed sulfide mixtures (conductivity isotherms) and the “glow” curves, found at linearly increasing temperature, indicate the onset of the reaction, the velocity of the transformation, and the temperature dependence of the reaction velocity as well as the particular stages of the reaction course. Unlike the conductivity glow curves, showing only a maximum typical for these experimental conditions, the conductivity isotherms show, in addition to a characteristic decrease of the conductivity during the real reaction, some more effects not related to the transformation of the thiospinel.
Notes:
