Notizen: The influence of internal stress on the magnetic anisotropy and the magnetostriction was investigated in sputter-deposited amorphous (Tb0.27Dy0.73)0.42Fe0.58 films. Films with tensile stress show in-plane anisotropy and giant magnetostriction of λ(parallel)=400×10−6 at 1 T measured in a field parallel to the film plane at room temperature. The magnetostriction rises rapidly to λ(parallel)=200×10−6 at 0.05 T and the coercivity is less than 0.01 T. On the other hand films with compressive stress show perpendicular anisotropy and still higher magnetostriction of λ(parallel)=540×10−6 at 1 T; however, this is by far a slower increase of magnetostriction at small fields. This different behavior is explained by considering the nature of magnetization processes, i.e., domain-wall motion and spin rotation.

Notizen: Abstract Ground-active ants were sampled from three habitats: (i) a 10-year-old Eucalyptus punctata plantation, (ii) native woodland regrowth, and (iii) the surrounding pasture, at a study site in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. A previous study, undertaken 6 years earlier at the same study sites, revealed no difference in species richness or composition between the eucalypt plantation and pasture. The aims of the present study were: (i) to investigate the successional change in ant community structure within the plantations; and (ii) to evaluate what levels of taxonomic identification were sufficient to indicate a change had taken place. Univariate statistics (anova) were used to compare estimates of assemblage richness between habitats using data classified at five levels of taxonomic resolution: species, morphospecies, easily recognisable taxonomic units, genus and functional group. Multivariate statistics (anosim and non-metric multidimensional scaling) were used to compare ant assemblages between habitats and between sampling events at a range of taxonomic resolutions from species to functional group. This study found: (i) a significant temporal change in community composition was evident using species, genus and functional group level data, but no change was detected in the pasture or woodland; (ii) mean ant species, morphospecies and easily recognisable taxonomic units richness were significantly greater within the plantations than the pasture; (iii) compositional differences between the plantation and pasture assemblages were evident at all levels of taxonomic resolution; (iv) mean ant species and genus richness were significantly higher in the woodland than in the plantation, and these two habitats were compositionally distinct at all levels of taxonomic resolution. This is the first case study to have documented a successional response from ants to the revegetation of agricultural land with eucalypt plantations. Reasons for the temporal and interhabitat differences in community structure are discussed, as well as the implications for taxonomic sufficiency in monitoring ant community successions.

Notizen: Abstract The conventional Direct-Sequence Spread-Spectrum-Multiple-Access (DS-SSMA) system with RAKE-receiver is an interesting approach in mobile communications in order to combat the frequency selectivity of the channel. The main advantages of DS-SSMA are well known, but its capacity is limited by other-user interference. Another interesting SSMA technique that combats the frequency selectivity of the channel and achieves high spectral efficiency is based on Orthogonal-Frequency-Division-Multiplexing (OFDM). This new SSMA technique combines the principles of DS-SSMA with OFDM and is called Multi-Carrier Spread-Spectrum-Multiple-Access (MC-SSMA). By providing high frequency diversity, this combination enables the possibility to perform a maximum-likelihood detection (MLD) resulting in high performance/capacity, to use the spectrum in an efficient way and to retain many advantages of the conventional DS-SSMA system. In addition, it allows both simple cell-separation by using frequency hopping and simple hardware realization. An example for the downlink of a mobile communications system, i.e. the transmission from the base station to a mobile station, using MC-SSMA with Walsh-Hadamard code spreading is studied. Different coherent detection algorithms such as conventional detection, MLD, and iterative detection are analyzed. The analytical performance of MLD is evaluated. It is also shown analytically, and by simulations that the MC-SSMA system with MLD outperforms the DS-SSMA system with RAKE-receiver. Up to 64 active users can be transmitted in a 1.25 MHz bandwidth. Each user has a rate of 16.0 kbit/s by using BPSK modulation. At a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 13 dB a bit error probability ofP b =10−3 can be guaranteed without channel coding. This results in a spectral efficiency of about 0.8 bit/s/Hz. Under the same conditions the conventional DS-SSMA system results in a spectral efficiency of about 0.15 bit/s/Hz. Hence, using MC-SSMA for the downlink of a cellular mobile communications system is a promising approach.

Notizen: Reaction of O, O-Dimethyl Phosphoramidothioate with ChloralThe system O,O-dimethyl phosphoramidothioate (1)/chloral was investigated at room temperature. Two competing reactions occur: (A) formation of the 1:1 adduct 2, and (B) sulfur/oxygen exchange yielding the oxo compound 3, which subsequently forms a chloral adduct 4.

Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Derivatives of Halogenated Aldehydes. XI. Substitution Reactions of 2,5-Bis-Trichloromethyl- and 2-Trichloromethyl-5-dichloromethylene-1,3-dioxolan-4-one Oxime2,5-Bis-trichloromethyl- (1) and 2-trichloromethyl-5-dichloromethylene-1,3-dioxolan-4-one oxime 2 are acylated with acyl halides, alkyl chlorocarbonates and N,N-dimethylcarbamyl chloride to give the corresponding O-acyl oximes 4-6, 9, 11 and 13. The addition of the oximes 1 and 2 to isocyanates yields the oxime carbamates 7 and 10, and the addition to N-acetyl-2,2,2-trichloroacetaldimine leads to the O-(1-acetamino-2,2,2-trichloroethyl) oximes 8 and 12. Oxime 2 forms a sodium salt 3 which gives the O-alkyl (15), the O-aryl (16) and the O-sulphonyl oximes (14) by reactions with alkyl halides or dialkyl sulfates, with activated aryl halides or with sulphonyl chlorides, respectively.

Notizen: Derivatives of Halogenated Aldehydes. XIV. Reactions of 1,2,2,2-Tetrachloroethyl Isocyanate1,2,2,2-Tetrachloroethyl isocyanate 2 reacts with alcohols or phenols to form the N-tetrachloroethyl-O-alkyl(aryl) urethanes 3-6. With thioalcohols and thiophenols the corresponding thiourethanes 11-12 are obtained. In these compounds the chlorine in position 1 can be substituted by treatment with a nucleophilic compound in the presence of a base by way of an elimination addition mechanism. In these reactions the compounds 7-10 and 13-14 are formed. Amines attack 2 at both active centres to give the substituted ureas 15-18. Diphenyl amine, some carboxylic acid amides and benzazoles, however, react only with the isocyanate group to form the compounds 19-25. Reactions of 2-amino-benzazoles, 2-amino-pyridine and amidines with 2 yield the heterocyclic compounds 26-31.
