Abstract: This book assembles many of the great leaders of the senior living and care industry to discuss their paths to and views on leadership. Each chapter provides readers with ideas, information, and inspiration on how to achieve leadership in this dynamic, mission-focused industry. It includes various strategies for success, such as promoting meaning and purpose in corporate culture, making decisions in the absence of perfect information, managing your personal assets of relationships and reputation, and finding competitive advantages through technology, training, and team-building. These leaders also share their experiences responding to COVID-19 and discuss how the pandemic may change the future of leadership in the industry. Whether your path starts in gerontology, nursing, social work, design, real estate, finance, law, operations, or technology, and whether one pursues work in the private, nonprofit, or government sectors, this volume provides a valuable resource for all aspiring and developing leaders in the senior living industry.

Notes: Abstract The life history of Euryale ferox Salisb, observed in Akashi, Southwestern Japan, is described. Cleistogamous (CL) flowers appear from early July and precocious pollination occurs. Chasmogamous (CH) flowers are seen during a limited period between mid-August and mid-September. The abundance of CH flowers varies among populations and/or from year to year. Few insects visit CH flowers and self-pollination occurs prior to anthesis. The number of seeds produced by CL flowers significantly exceeds that of CH flowers. Considering the shorter period of CH flower production and the lesser quantity of seed produced, the significance of CL flowers in the maintenance of E. ferox populations must be considered greater than that of CH flowers.

Notes: [Auszug] Differential chromatid staining of metaphase cells from maternal and fetal tissues was achieved when pregnant females were intravenously infused with BrdU for 24 h at gestational days 11, 15 and 19. SCE frequencies were simultaneously studied in fetal cells as well as in maternal bone marrow. ...

Notes: [Auszug] In addition to chromosomal disorders many inherited metabolic disorders can now be diagnosed prenatally, including biochemical defects involving diminished or complete absence of enzyme activities7. The studies reported here were designed to determine whether cells lacking a specific enzyme ...

Notes: Summary The frequencies of base-line and Mitomycin-C (MMC) induced sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) were surveyed in four inbred strains of mice. In contrast to the C57B1/6J, CBA/J, and A/J strains where frequencies of SCE increased linearly with increasing dose of MMC, levels of SCE were significantly lower in AKR/J mice at high MMC concentrations. At a dose of 5 mg/kg MMC, chromosomal aberrations were more frequent in bone marrow cells of AKR/J mice than in C57B1/6J mice. These observations suggest an altered response to DNA damage in the AKR mouse strain.

Notes: Summary Although baseline levels of SCE appear to be similar in metaphase cells derived from young and old human skin fibroblast cultures, as significant decline in both MMC- and AAAF-induced sister chromatid exchanges was observed in the older cell populations. Considerable variation exists in the levels of MMC-induced SCE between individual cell cultures. However, parallel examination of several cell strains from young and old donors confirmed the decrease in mutagen-induced SCE frequencies in older cell populations.

Description: Sections and macerations of roots and stems of Orchidantha maxillarioides (Ridl.) K. Schum. (Lowiaceae) were examined with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Vessels with long scalariform perforation plates occur in both roots and rhizome; perforation plates have more pit membrane remnants in rhizomes. At least a few tracheids are present. The degree of perforation plate specialization correlates with the moist forest understory habit of Orchidantha, and is similar to that in primitive families of monocotyledons that occupy marshy habitats. Vessel data suggest a primitive position for Lowiaceae within Zingiberales in accordance with recent phylogenies of monocotyledons, but recent molecular data point to a position more nearly terminal in the clade; this situation needs resolution. Raphides are figured with SEM, as are starch grains with rounded outlines, the shape of the latter newly reported for Lowiaceae.
