Pentadienyl Radicals - Structure and Spin Density DistributionAbstraction of hydrogen from 1,4-pentadiene by tert-butoxy radicals gives pentadienyl radical. At -115°C a superposition of two spectra (W- and Z-form) is observed by ESR at -70°C only the more stable W-form remains. A simple procedure is given which allows the conversion of the experimental spin density in HMO-spin densities. The corrected spin density serves as a measure for the structure of the SOMO and therefore can be used in application of FMO-theory to reactivity.
Notes:
