Notes:
29Si n.m.r. studies were made to investigate the silicate constitution in mixtures both of Tetraethylammonium(Tea) - Triethyl-(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium (Tehea) silicate solutions and of Triethyl-(2-hydroxypropyl)ammonium(Tehpa) - Tehea silicate solutions. The silicate anion structure depends on the ratio Tea-hydroxide: Tehea-hydroxide: silicon dioxide and Tehpahydroxide: Tehea-hydroxide: silicon dioxide and on the concentration of the solution, respectively. For a ratio base: silicon dioxide (N:Si) of 2:1 and a silicon dioxide concentration (c) of 1.1 mol/kg the amount of double-ring(DR) silicate is smaller than in pure Tea, Tehea, and Tehpa silicate solutions of the same ratio and concentration. For both, for the increasing c to 1.7 mol/kg and the decreasing ratio N:Si to 1:1 by a constant base concentration, the amount of double-three-ring (D3R) and double-four-ring (D4R) species increases. In the most cases, the compounds crystallizing from these solutions are D4R-silicate hydrates, which contain two quaternary cations.
