    Description: ROTRAN1 is a computer program to calculate the impedance and current gain of a simple transformer. Inputs to the program are primary resistance, primary inductance, secondary (load) resistance, secondary inductance, and mutual inductance. ROTRAN1 was written in BASICA for execution on the IBM PC personal computer. It was written in 1986.

    Description: The design and application of ASTROS (Advanced Star and Target Reference Optical Sensor) are described, with emphasis on performance test results acquired with a prototype system. The ASTROS tracker provides extremely precise measurements of star image coordinates as inputs to the Image Motion Compensation (IMC) system used to stabilize the science instrument focal planes. Performance levels achieved are dramatic improvements over the levels achieved with image dissector designs with comparable fields of view.

    Description: A circuit for scanning and outputting the induced charges in a solid state charge coupled device (CCD) image detector is disclosed in an image detection system for use in a spacecraft attitude control system. The image detection system includes timing control circuitry for selectively controlling the output of the CCD detector so that video outputs are provided only with respect to induced charges corresponding to predetermined sensing element lines of the CCD detector. The timing control circuit and the analog to digital converter are controlled by a programmed microprocessor which defines the video outputs to be converted and further controls the timing control circuit so that no video outputs are provided during the delay associated with analog to digital conversion.

    Description: Navigation grade fiber optic rotation sensors (FORS) are being developed as an alternative to spinning mass gyro's for unmanned planetary exploration spacecraft. FORS is attractive because of its many advantages such as long life, low weight, low power, and low cost as compared to its mechanical counterparts. FORS incorporates an advanced integrated optics circuit. The advanced eight-component integrated optics circuit performs all the key signal processing functions and in addition incorporates a unique optical beat detection circuit thereby providing an output in the form of pulses proportional to incremental angular position similar to a ring laser gyro (RLG) but without the inherent lock-in problem RLG's possess.
