    Notes: The size reduction of modern electronic devices creates a growing demand for characterization tools to determine material properties on a nanometer scale. The Kelvin probe force microscope is designed to obtain laterally resolved images of the sample's work function. Using a setup in ultrahigh vacuum, we were able to distinguish work function variations for differently oriented crystal facets of single grains on a semiconductor surface. For the tetragonal solar cell material CuGaSe2 the experiments demonstrate differences as low as 30 meV between (102) and (111) oriented surfaces and up to 255 meV between (1¯1¯2¯) and (110) surfaces. This influences the band bending of solar cell heterostructures and consequently also the solar power conversion efficiency. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Abstract. In this paper the results obtained by X-ray diffraction studies on the structural characteristics of CdTe thin films deposited onto glass substrates by close-spaced sublimation technique are presented. Using different experimental arrangements and appropriate settings for growth parameters, the films with different polycrystalline structures were prepared. The geometry and the volume of the deposition chamber influence the size of film crystallites and also their preferential orientation. The role of deposition parameters such as the substrate temperature, the incidence angle, the film thickness, and the heat treatment in determination of the structural properties of the films are also investigated.

    Notes: Abstract The starting point of this study is the monolacunar structure of the Keggin polytungstate anion [GeW11O39]8−having the capacity of functioning as the coordinating ligand for the uranium U4+ cation, and the formation of the complex polytungstate anions of the [U(GeW11O39)2]12− type. The pH range of the complex formation was established and the stability constants were calculated by the electrophoresis method. By applying the molar ratio method to spectrophotometry, the molar ratio of polyoxometalate ligands and U4+ cations have been found to have the values of 1:1 and 2:1, respectively.

    Notes: Abstract The present paper is concerned with the isotope exchange between185W and tungsten, and32P and phosphorus respectively, in uranium(IV) trivacant Keggin and Dawson polyoxotungstophosphate complexes, in water. These studies were carried out at different concentrations and temperature. The isotope exchange rate increases with the temperature and the reagents' concentration. The experimental results show that the complexes are labile kinetically.

    Notes: Abstract A new uranium tungstoborate heteropolyanion K12[U(BW11O39H)2]·23 H2O has been prepared and investigated by thermal analyses, IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The compound obtained from Keggin monolacunary anions is 1:2 sandwich-type and exhibits a square antiprismatic stereochemistry for uranium (IV) ion.

    Notes: Abstract Two tris(oxouranium)-substituted Keggin and Dawson sandwich-type tungstophosphate heteropolyanions Na12[(UO)3(H2O)6(PW9O34)2]·21 H2O (1) and Na18[(UO)3(H2O)6(P2W15O56)2]·27 H2O (2) have been prepared by reaction of uranium sulphate with [PW9O34]9− and [P2W15O56]12−, respectively, in aqueous media at 4.7 pH. The products were characterized by elemental and thermal analyses, IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and magnetical susceptibility. The results of these studies suggest that the compounds obtained from Keggin and Dawson trilacunary anions are 2∶3 sandwich-type complexes and both exhibit a square antiprismatic stereochemistry for uranium(IV) with retention of polyoxometallate parent structure.

    Description / Table of Contents: An nicht plastifizierten PVC-Mischungen wurde der Einfluö von chloriertem Polyethylen (CPE) und der Schnecken-drehzahl auf die Extrusionsparameter untersucht. Bei Mischungen ohne Füllstoff haben die Kurven für die wichtigsten Extrusionsparameter (mit Ausnahme der Fließgeschwindigkeit des extrudierten Materials) die für Polymermischungen charakteristische Form. Ein Zusatz von 10 Teilen Tonerde auf 100 Teile PVC führt zu einer Änderung der Kurven, die bei dem System mit 7,0 Teilen CPE ein Minimum aufweisen. Bei diesem CPE-Gehalt liegen die Extrusionsparameter der Mischungen mit 10 Teilen Tonerde sehr nahe bei denen der Mischungen ohne Füllstoff.
    Notes: The influence of chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) and of the screw speed on the extrusion characteristics of unplasticized PVC blends, with and without addition of clay as a filling material, was investigated. For the blends with no filling material the curves of variation of the main extrusion characteristics (except the flow rate of the extruded material) exhibit shapes characteristic to polymer blends. The introduction of 10 parts of clay per 100 parts of PVC leads to a change of the curves, which exhibit a minimum for 7.0 parts CPE in the system. For this CPE content the values of the extrusion characteristics of the blends containing 10 parts clay approach very well those of the compounds without filling material.
