Description / Table of Contents:
Summary Anionic surfactants, i. e. alkyl benzene sulphonates and alkyl sulphonates have been analyzed by mass spectrometry using field desorption (FD), desorption chemical ionization (DCI) and fast atom bombardment (FAB) as ionization technique, where the FD technique has been used both in the positive and negative ion mode. The FD spectra are dominated by quasimolecular ions, while structure specific fragments are of low abundance or even missing. The negative FD mode can be used for a selective ionization of anionic surfactants. The FAB and DCI spectra exhibit both abundant quasimolecular ions and fragment ions which in part are structure specific.
Notes:
