Summary The expression “threshold value” in connection with assimilation and plant growth is in use since 1919 and means that low concentration of carbon dioxide in the air around green plants which fluctuates in the neighborhood of 0.030 vol.% according to the daily variations of light intensity, temperature, and moisture, with its minimum in full sunlight of 0.009–0.012 vol. %. Deductions for practical horticulture are drawn.
