Conclusions 1. The degree of deformation of austenite, the carbon concentration, and the tempering temperature have the same effect on metastable austenitic Fe−Ni alloys as on the chromium steels ordinarily subjected to TMT. 2. The effectiveness of TMT depends on the presence and the condition of residual austenite. The amount of residual austenite in Fe−Ni alloys and its strength depend on the degree of deformation and carbon concentration, which are responsible for the increase in strength resulting from TMT.
