    Notes: Stochastic models fitted to hydrologic data of different time scales are interrelated because the higher time scale data (aggregated data) are derived from those of lower time scale. Relationships between the statistical properties and parameters of models of aggregated data and of original data are examined in this paper. It is also shown that the aggregated data can be more accurately predicted by using a valid model of the original data than by using a valid model of the aggregated data. This property is particularly important in forecasting annual values because only a few annual values are usually available and the resulting forecasts are relatively inaccurate if models based only on annual data are used. The relationships and forecasting equations are developed for general aggregation time and can be used for hourly and daily, daily and monthly or monthly and yearly data. The method is illustrated by using monthly and yearly streamflow data. The results indicate that various statistical characteristics and parameters of the model of annual data can be accurately estimated by using the monthly data and forecasts of annual data by using monthly models have smaller one step ahead mean square error than those obtained by using annual data models.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird die pulsierende Strömung einer zähen inkompressiblen Flüssigkeit in Rohren mit veränderlichem Querschnitt bei kleinen Reynoldsschen Zahlen untersucht. Die Lösungen bestehen aus einem stationären und einem oszillatorischen Anteil. Die Schubspannungsverteilung an den Rohrwänden wird für einige besondere geometrische Rohrformen wie konische Rohre, örtlich eingeschnürte Rohre und peristaltische Rohre berechnet und ausführlich diskutiert. Bei einigen Fällen wird die Existenz einer Ablösung im Strömungsfeld festgestellt.
    Notes: Summary The pulsatile flow of an incompressible viscous fluid in a cylindrical tube of varying cross section is investigated for small Reynolds numbers. The solutions consist of a stedy and an oscillatory part. The shear stress distribution on the wall is evaluated and discussed in detail for special geometries like tapered tubes, locally constricted tubes and peristaltic tubes. The existence of separation in the flow field is noticed.

    Notes: Abstract The objectives of the present study are to investigate the hydrological homogeneity of Upper Cauvery annual maximum flow data and to select a suitable distribution for the frequency analysis. The L-moments method is used in this analysis. The Upper Cauvery river basin is shown to be hydrologically heterogeneous. The 3 parameter log normal and the generalized extreme value distributions are recommended for the frequency analysis of data in this region.

    Notes: Abstract The instrumental variable-approximate maximum likelihood (IV0AML) method provides a technique to develop better models for short-time increment hydrologic data. In this method, a recursive input-output model, which consists of a deterministic model and a stochastic noise model are used. These models handle the system and measurement noise separately. The instrumental variable method has been developed to eliminate the bias in parameter estimates. The IV-AML method is investigated in the present study. Parameters of daily rainfall-runoff models are estimated by the IV-AML and by least squares methods and compared. The effects of a rainfall filter on parameter estimates are also investigated. Forecast accuracies of models whose parameters are estimated by IV-AML and least squares methods are compared. The results indicate that the forecast accuracy of models whose parameters are estimated by least squares method is comparable to that of models whose parameters are estimated by IV-AML method. The rainfall filter, on the other hand, reduces the parameter variation and improves forecasts.

    Notes: Summary An equation governing the excess pressure has been derived, for an axially tethered and stenosed elastic tube filled with viscous liquid, by introducing the elasticity of the tube through pressure-area relation. This equation is solved numerically for large Womersley parameter and the results are presented for different types of pressure-radius relations and geometries by prescribing an outgoing wave suffering attenuation at some axial point of the tube. For a locally constricted tube it is observed that the pressure oscillates more and generates sound on the down stream side of the constriction.

Die Greensche Funktion wird für einen unbegrenzten Bereich sowie für das Äußere eines Kreiszylinders durch eine geeignete Fouriertransformation hergeleitet. Für ω〉2Ω sind die Oberflächenwellen ähnlich denen einer Potentialströmung, für ω〈2Ω ergeben sich Wellen, die vollständig durch die Drehbewegung bedingt sind und die kein Gegenstück im nichtrotierenden Fall besitzen.
    Notes: Summary The problem of surface waves generated by an oscillatory point source oscillating with frequency ω in a fluid rotating with constant angular velocity Ω has been investigated. The Green's function solution is obtained for an unbounded region and a region bounded internally by a circular cylinder using an appropiate Fourier transform. It is seen that in the case when ω〉2Ω, the surface waves are similar to the ones existing in a potential flow but when ω〈2Ω, the surface waves correspond to the inertial waves which are generated entirely due to rotation and have no counterpart in a non-rotating fluid motion.
