    Description / Table of Contents: Indolo[2,3-a]quinolizines and a Convenient Synthesis of FlavoserpentineThe reaction of tryptamine hydrochloride with acetoacetaldehyde (as its enol ether or acetal) yields 3-acetyl-7,12-dihydro-2-methyl-6H-indolo[2,3-a]quinolizinium chloride (2a), which is investigated with regard to its formation and especially to reduction and oxidation processes. This also applies to the hexahydroquinolizine 4 formed by (stereoselective) disproportionation. The base 7 corresponding to 2a has the character of a pyridone methide, after acetalization or dehydrogenation, however, of a betaine (8, 12). By Clemmensen reduction of 2a or of dehydrogenation product 9a the ethyl derivative flavoserpentine (9e) is formed. With 1,1-dimethoxy-3-pentanone the homologous dihydroquinolizinium salts 19 and 20 are obtained.
    Notes: Das aus Tryptamin-hydrochlorid und Acetylacetaldehyd (als Enolether oder Acetal) gebildete 3-Acetyl-7,12-dihydro-2-methyl-6H-indolo[2,3-a]chinolizinium-chlorid (2a) wird hinsichtlich Bildungsweise und reaktivem Verhalten, besonders bei Reduktion und Oxidation, untersucht. Dies gilt auch für das durch (stereoselektive) Disproportionierung gebildete Hexahydrochinolizin 4. Die 2a entsprechende Base 7 besitzt Pyridonmethid-Struktur, nach Acetalisierung oder Dehydrierung jedoch Betain-Charakter (8, 12). Durch Clemmensen-Reduktion von 2a oder von Dehydrierungsprodukt 9a entsteht das Ethyl-Derivat Flavoserpentin (9e). Mit 1,1-Dimethoxy-3-pentanon erhält man die homologen Dihydrochinolizinium-Salze 19 und 20.
