Notes: A high solid loading of dispersed silicon nitride slurry was prepared with various dispersants, which allowed a stable silicon nitride suspension with sintering additives (cordierite) in alkaline regionsto a solid content of 45 vol%. Gum arabic, PMAA-NH4, TMAH, PAA-NH4 and their composites wereselected as dispersants. The results suggested that the composite dispersant which was obtained usingPAA-NH4 and TMAH with the ratio in 4:1 was more effective in aqueous silicon nitride powdersuspensions system than simplex dispersant. The green bodies derived exhibited a mechanical strength ashigh as 8.7MPa and SEM photos revealed that the green body also had a high homogeneity

Description: Abstract The pyrochlore‐type rare‐earth oxides attract considerable attentions due to their outstanding properties and extensive applications. In this work, contour maps of mechanical/thermal properties as a function of A and B cation radii across a wide variety of A2B2O7 (A = La‐Lu and Y; B = Ti, Sn, Hf, Zr, Pr and Ce) pyrochlore oxides are studied using the first‐principles calculations. The mechanical/thermal properties vary dramatically with increasing of the B cation sizes but do not show a strong systematic dependence on the A cation sizes. Furthermore, the machine learning algorithm is performed for the large family of pyrochlores and the parameters playing key role on mechanical/thermal properties are clarified. Besides, the expressions of focused mechanical and thermal properties are constructed. These results are expected to guide the future material design through composition tailoring.

Description: In nature, microorganisms mainly live in biofilms rather than planktonically to defend against various environmental stimuli. Understanding and predicting the dynamics and mechanisms of biofilms is of grand importance to human life. Besides experimental approaches, modeling provides a powerful tool to describe biofilms mathematically, and the in silico simulation offers a deep insight into the underlying functional machineries of biofilms. In this review, we briefly summarized the main advances in biofilm modeling, including the 1D model, multidimensional model, as well as the incorporation of extracellular polymeric substance and quorum sensing signals. Specifically, we focus on recent experimental advances in biofilms, which may challenge the current modeling systems via newly discovered properties and novel participants in natural water systems. We hope this article could build a bridge between in silico modeling and new experimental discoveries, and, in particular, we wish to attract more attention to biofilm-related-environmental issues at various scales.
