Abstract We evaluate the possibility of ascertaining the relationship between chemical structure and the sensitivity of an explosive to shock. We employ the methods of computer chemistry (a logico-structural approach to recognition of specimens on molecular graphs) and quantum chemistry. The theoretical computations are referred to one of the empirical sensitivity parameters. On the qualitative level we demonstrate the determinability of sensitivity through fragments of the structural explosive formulas.
