Description:
Allylglucosinolate, found in many cruciferous plants, is acutely toxic to Papilio polyxenes larvae, which do not normally attack crucifers. By contrast, larval growth of Pieris rapae, a crucifer specialist, is not affected even by artificially high concentrations of allylglucosinolate. Larval growth of Spodoptera eridania, a generalist feeder, is inhibited by high but not by low concentrations of the compound.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Blau, P A -- Feeny, P -- Contardo, L -- Robson, D S -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1978 Jun 16;200(4347):1296-8.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17738725" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
