Notes:
The intense red color of the cell extracts of Polyangium fumosum, the producer of the tristhiazoline metabolite thiangazole A, is mainly caused by four new carotenoid pigments, i.e. di-O-demethylspirilloxanthin (1), its β-glucoside 2 and the glucoside fatty acid esters 3 and 4. Their structures were elucidated by IR, UV, and NMR spectroscopy and by mass spectrometry.
