Description / Table of Contents:
The VTPLAN system as an example of integrated computer aid for thermal process engineering functions. The manner in which process engineering programmes are offered for use often fails to take full account of the user's practical requirements and thus does not match the scientific and technical efficiency of the software. One alternative which presents itself is a system conceived in such a way that the programmes, data banks, and hardware are mutually coordinated and fully integrated in use. With this concept the various participants in the system - data base management, software group, and users - cooperate in such a way that each concentrates on its own specific field of activity while keeping up a continuous exchange of experience with the other two. This concept enables the developer to rationalize software production and to up-date it continuously, and provides the user with the opportunity for regular use with a minimum of expertise in data processing. As an example of the practical application of this concept, a description is given of a system known as VTPLAN, which was developed by Bayer and has been functioning with success since 1978.
Notes:
