Summary 1. The thermal transformaitons of piperylene were investigated at 450–550° under elevated pressure in a flow system. 2. As a result of these transformations at elevated pressure, a complex mixture of hydrocarbons of various classes was formed, pentenes, hexenes, isoprene, cyclopentadlene, cyclohexene homologs, aromatic hydrocarbons, and products of the cyclic polymerization of piperylene. 3. The presence of these hydrocarbons in the condensates gives reason to suppose that, under the given conditions, isometrization, dehydrocyclization, hydrogenation, polymerization and dimerization, with subsequent dehydrogenation and dealkylation occur, 4. A comparison was made of the compositions of the products of the thermal treatment of piperylene at various pressures (15 atm, atmospheric, and 20 mm).
