Notes: [Auszug] Schonbein1 and Goppelsroeder2 were the first to utilize the separation effected by capillarity, in analytical work on organic compounds which they called "capillary analysis". After our unsuccessful attempts to purify the yellow crystalline compound mentioned above, we considered that the ...

Notes: Vinyl benzoate was polymerized in bulk as well as in solution, using benzoyl peroxide and azobisisobutyronitrile initiator at a temperature of 79.6°C. The overall rate of polymerization was found to be proportional to the concentration of the monomer and to the square root of the initiator concentration. Polymerization progressed to a normal extent, except that it increased with conversion, probably because of transfer with polymer. The value of the transfer constants with the monomer, initiator, and some solvents are reported.

Notes: Kinetics of the polymerization of n-butyl methacrylate and isobutyl methacrylate initiated by benzoyl peroxide in benzene solution were investigated. In both systems the rates of polymerization were found to be much less compared to bulk polymerization, that can be attributed to decrease in concentration of the monomer. The order of reaction with respect to monomer concentration was found to be nearly unity with both systems studied. The chain transfer constants with benzene (CS) have been determined.

Notes: Kinetics of the polymerization of n-butyl methacrylate and isobutyl methacrylate have been reported in this paper. The average degree of polymerization (DP) has been found to remain reasonably constant upto about 30 per cent conversion beyond which it is found to increase with conversion. The methacrylic esters are characterized by low chain transfer to monomer. Ki for both the esters have been determined. From a double logarithmic plot of [η] against M the values of K and α of the STAUDINGER-KUHN equation have been obtained for the poly-n-butyl methacrylate. Using the values of K and α thus obtained molecular weights of fractionated samples of polyisobutyl methacrylate have been calculated. Attempt has been made to test the validity of PALIT's equation connecting [η] and M.

Notes: Kinetics of the polymerisation of vinyl n-butyrate, vinyl isobutyrate, vinyl n-caproate and vinyl isocaproate have been reported in this paper. The average DP has been found to increase with conversion. The vinyl esters are characterised by high chain transfer to monomer. Ki for all the esters have been determined. K and α values of the STAUDINGER-KUHN equation have been determined. The average effective dimensions in solutions of fractionated samples of the polyvinyl esters have been calculated. Branching or increase in the length of the acyl group of the vinyl monomer and the moleculer weight of the polymer were found to favour the polymer to assumed coiled configuration.

Notes: Kinetics of benzoyal peroxide initiated polymerisation of vinyl easters of n-butyric, iso-butyric, n-caproic, isocaproic acids in benzene were investigated. In all the systems the rate of polymerisations were found to be much less as compared with bulk polymerisation, than can be attributed to dilution of the monomer. The reactions with respect to monomer concentration were found to be a higher order (1.8 to 1.9) than unity. The constants of chain transfer to benzene (CS) and to benzoyal peroxide (CI) have been obtained.
