Abstract The Gibbs free energy circular vortices for an ideal type II superconducting hollow cylinder with a cylindrically symmetric applied field is calculated in the London approximation. The physical analysis of the results indicates the presence of a special kind of Bean-Livingstone barriers, as well as other features related to the symmetry of the system.
