Notes: [Auszug] Sediments related to certain members of the Duruma Sandstone and with identical relationship to the Mesozoic marine formations have recently been discovered by Mr. D. H. Jepsen while mapping the geology of the Abbai (Blue Nile) basin for the joint Ethiopia U.S. Water Resources Board. This ...

Notes: [Auszug] Possible transform faults which offset the Wonji fault belt can be traced into lines of weakness dating back to the Jurassic In the surrounding Somalian and Ethiopian plateaux. This makes it unlikely that the Afar depression was produced by tensional separation during the formation of the Red Sea ...

Notes: [Auszug] The Afar triple junction is unique in being a land area so that its stratigraphical, volcanological and structural evolution is exposed. McKenzie et al. seem to pass over what is known about this evolution3*4, with the result, for example, that they have recourse to a "jumping" of the Red Sea ...

Notes: [Auszug] A recent series of large earthquakes in the Middle East suggests a pattern to regional seismicity, on a broader scale than has generally been considered. Since March 21, 1969, there has been major seismicity in south-eastern Europe and eastern Africa, centred chiefly along a line marking the Red ...

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract A review of the occurrence of feldspathoidal rocks in the Cainozoic volcanic province of Ethiopia is given. Ijolite and melanephelinite are described for the first time from this province. The close relationship between cross-rift transcurrent faults and situation of peralkaline rocks, including the feldspathoidal varieties, is emphasized. No feldspathoidal rocks are known from within the Ethopian rift system, being restricted to the interiors of the Ethiopian and Somalian plateaux.

Notes: [Auszug] The end-Palaeozoic age of the termination of peneplana-tion of the Basement rocks in northern, central and eastern Ethiopia has been accepted by most previous workers1'2, and Prof. Whiteman presents no evidence to support the doubts he now casts on this dating. Prof. Whiteman considers that the ...

Notes: [Auszug] DURING the summer of 1961 a series of rock samples were collected in the Sidamo?Borana area of southern Ethiopia by A. S. Rogers and D. L. Simmons.
