Notes: Summary In this paper we study the spectral brightness of the radiation emitted by electrons moving in longitudinal wiggler and solenoidal magnetic field. The analysis is based on the evaluation of the Lienard-Wiechert potential retaining the condition of far-field limit. Some features of a longitudinal wiggler are presented and compared with the results relevant to the brightness of the helical wiggler and the solenoidal magnetic field employed in gyrotron-type devices.

Notes: Unsteady flow to a large-diameter well has been analyzed by a discrete kernel approach, taking well storage into consideration. The variation of drawdown with time has been obtained at the well and inside the aquifer. The validity of the new method has been verified by comparing the drawdown at the well with the drawdown given by Papadopulos and Cooper (1967). The aquifer contribution to discharge at various times has been estimated.

Notes: Unsteady flow to a large-diameter well in a confined aquifer during recovery has been analyzed by discrete kernel approach. A family of type curves has been presented for different durations of pumping. These type curves provide a fairly accurate means of determining aquifer parameters from data of pump tests conducted in a large-diameter well. The replenishment of well storage at various times has been estimated.

Notes: Unsteady flow to a large-diameter well in a confined aquifer experiencing well loss has been analyzed by the discrete kernel approach. The well storage reduces the well loss component and the well storage is effective in the beginning of pumping. The inefficiency of a well is overcome by increasing the well radius. The variation of specific drawdown in a large-diameter well experiencing well loss with pumping rate is nonlinear. The nondimensional time drawdown graph at a large-diameter well, in which the well loss component follows the Jacob's equation, is not unique but dependent on pumping rate.

Notes: Using Zhukovsky's function and Schwarz-Christoffel conformal mapping technique, unconfined seepage from a river of large width has been analyzed for a steady-state condition. Seepage quantities occurring through the bed and the bank of the river have been estimated separately. The reach transmissivity constant for a river with large width has been determined. It is found that if the distance between the riverbank and the observation well is more than 0.5 Di, where Di is the saturated thickness of aquifer below the riverbed, the reach transmissivity constant is independent of drawdown at the observation well. The reach transmissivity constant depends on the depth of water in the river and the distance of the observation well from the riverbank.

Notes: The effects of powdery mildew (Erysiphe pisi) disease of pea (Pisum sativum) on the number and size of root nodules and on nitrogenase activity were investigated in pea plants grown in pots and in the field. There were significant reductions in nodulation and in the size of root nodules as well as in nitrogenase activity in infected plants.

Notes: At large beam currents, the beam space charge produces a radial electric field causing E×B rotation of the beam. As the beam travels through a partially dielectric loaded waveguide, it emits coherent Cerenkov radiation at frequencies ω=βvb+l(ωα/γ0), where l is the azimuthal mode number, ωα is the angular frequency of rotation, and β is the propagation constant.

Notes: A laser beam propagating along the density gradient in a laser-produced plasma is unstable to a transverse density perturbation. When ambient density scale length is comparable to growth length, spatial growth is faster than the exponential. For a linear density profile the amplitude of the filament varies with z as an Airy's function, whereas for an exponential profile it goes as a Bessel function of imaginary order and argument. In both cases the growth rate increases with the transverse wave vector of the perturbation.

Notes: The theory of free-electron-laser instability for a tenuous relativistic electron beam propagating parallel to a longitudinal wiggler field has been extended to include the influence of finite radial geometry on its stability properties. The growth rate of the instability shows a sensitive dependence on (ν/γ)1/3, where ν is the Budker parameter and γ is the beam energy. The growth rate increases with increasing beam intensity. However, the instability bandwidth with respect to the beam location inside the waveguide decreases for beams with somewhat higher ν/γ values. The instability is broadband for several harmonics excited.
