Notes: Abstract The mathematical model presented in this paper describes in detail the gas-phase chemistry (22 reactions), gas-phase/liquid-phase equilibrium (18 equilibria) and liquid-phase chemistry (57 reactions and equilibria) in a stratiform cloud system. The model is used to analyze the influence of the liquid phase on the photooxidant formation and destruction for different gaseous SO2 concentrations with and without consideration of organic aqueous phase chemistry. It has been shown that for [SO2]〉1 ppb the cloud is quantitatively a sink for H2O2, OH, HO2 and O3. The ozon destruction via O3+O2 -, which is most important in remote areas, is in polluted areas only significant at summer days. The role of organic components in cloud water consists in the transformation OH → HO2 where HO2 is further transformed into H2O2.

Notes: Summary To the creamy-yellow colored bases of the rump feathers ofDucula bicolor adheres lipoid and noncolored powder. It is supposed, that the lipoid contains the creamy colour, which apparently is no carotenoid.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary A study of 328 skins of the Dunnock,Prunella modularis, led to the following conclusions: P. m. meinertzhageni warrants separation from nominatemodularis. The breeding birds of the Apenines appear to be close tomabbotti andmeinertzhageni, but do not belong to the nominate race.P. m. blanfordi is synonymous withobscura, P. m. enigmatica, on the other hand, (likebelousovi) with nominatemodularis. The breeding birds of the higher mountain forests of the Crimea are newly described asP. m. fuscata. This subspecies differs clearly from nominatemodularis, meinertzhageni, andobscura, but is very similar to the geographically well isolated subspecieseuxina (of northwestern Asia Minor) which is considered valid. The lower mountain forests of the Crimea are inhabited by typicalobscura supposed to have quite recently immigrated from the Caucasus. Considerations about evolution and distributional history ofP. modularis (and its alliesrubida andimmaculata) conclude the paper. The origin of this species group is supposed to have been in palearctic south-east Asia.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The two subspecies groups of Rock Buntings(cia andgodlewskii) currently treated as conspecific appear to be closely and strictly allopatric though partial sympatry cannot be excluded (for further details of distribution seeMauersberger andPortenko 1971). Likewise, they are not isolated ecologically. On the other hand, they vary clinally within each and are nowhere connected by clinal transition, secondary intergradation or any other kind of genetical contact known from borderline cases. This is evident where birds of the different groups are able to meet or even actually do so (cf. the reciprocal migrations ofpar and the strikingly palerdecolorata). Thegodlewskii-group differs from thecia-group in colours and other details of head pattern but also in the colour of the shoulder feathers (not like the back but contrastingly uniform cinnamon buff). Thus, appearance in the field and characters probably essential to species recognition are clearly different. For all these reasons, the two groups must be considered at least semispecies.
