    Description: Can school teach us to master life? This book confronts what the author sees as an ongoing trend in many Western democracies where citizens are increasingly being held accountable for their health and happiness. The author believes that the introduction of life skills in school shows a tendency to place more responsibility on the individual rather than address fundamental societal flaws that really should be solved politically. It examines how such responsibility to psychologically deal with these problems affects our mental health and quality of life. This book questions the fundamentals of the life mastery curriculum where we might be risking the creation of just another arena where children have to perform, challenging readers to evaluate more closely the premises, consequences and limitations of life mastery. The book, one of the first to question ‘life mastery’ as an achievable goal with critical reviews of the 21st century skills movement, will be of interest to psychologists, school counsellors, teachers, students, politicians, and any reader evaluating school curriculums in relation to the decline in youth and adolescent mental health.

The system integrates off-line programming, control of redundant robots, collision-free motion planning and sensor-based control. An implementation for pipe structure welding made at Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd., Denmark, demonstrates the system can be used for automatic welding of complex products in one-of-a-kind production.

    Notes: Abstract A user of an LALR(k) parser generator system may have difficulties in understanding how a given LALR(k) conflict is generated. This is especially difficult if the conflict does not correspond to an LR(k) conflict. A practical method for giving informative diagnostics on LALR(k) conflicts is presented. The diagnostics distinguish between those LALR(k) conflicts that correspond to LR(k) conflicts and those that do not. As a side effect the user is thus informed whether or not his grammar is in fact LR(k) despite not being LALR(k). The method is based on an algorithm for testing LR(k)-ness using the LR(0) machine supplied with LALR(k) lookahead sets. This algorithm is presented and its correctness is proved.

    Notes: Abstract In plants the enzyme coproporphyrinogen oxidase catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of coproporphyrinogen III to protoporphyrinogen IX in the heme and chlorophyll biosynthesis pathway(s). We have isolated a soybean coproporphyrinogen oxidase cDNA from a cDNA library and determined the primary structure of the corresponding gene. The coproporphyrinogen oxidase gene encodes a polypeptide with a predicted molecular mass of 43 kDa. The derived amino acid sequence shows 50% similarity to the corresponding yeast amino acid sequence. The main difference is an extension of 67 amino acids at the N-terminus of the soybean polypeptide which may function as a transit peptide. A full-length coproporphyrinogen oxidase cDNA clone complements a yeast mutant deleted of the coproporphyrinogen oxidase gene, thus demonstrating the function of the soybean protein. The soybean coproporphyrinogen oxidase gene is highly expressed in nodules at the stage where several late nodulins including leghemoglobin appear. The coproporphyrinogen oxidase mRNA is also detectable in leaves but at a lower level than in nodules while no mRNA is detectable in roots. The high level of coproporphyrinogen oxidase mRNA in soybean nodules implies that the plant increases heme production in the nodules to meet the demand for additional heme required for hemoprotein formation.
