Notes:
We report the results of a numerical study of how traveling wave branches originate and terminate in a prototypical excitable chemical system, viz. the Kernevez model. These results furnish a qualitative understanding of recent experimental observations on sustained spiral waves in a continuously fed unstirred reactor [W. Y. Tam et al., J. Chem. Phys. 88, 3395 (1988)], in particular of the hysteretic nature of the transition between the wave state and the homogeneous steady state.
