Summary The present study presented is related to the laminar flow in rigid cylindrical pipes of the fluids obeying the power law ofOstwald andde Waele and subjected to the sinusoidal pressure gradient. An experimental device was developed to determine the velocity profiles in the variable-concentrationhigh polymer aqueous solutions by means of laseranemometry. On the other hand, the mathematical model representing the fluid-behavior has enabled us to find out the velocity profiles by numerical methods showing that they are in full agreement with the experimental results. The influence of the rheological parameters of the fluid, the phenomenon-frequency and the piperadius, has also been demonstrated. The present study can be considered to be the first step in the modelling of the blood-flows in vessels which are essentially of the visco-elastic nature.
