    Description: Geological disasters are responsible for the loss of human lives and for significant economic and financial damage every year. Considering that these disasters may occur anywhere—both in remote and/or in highly populated areas—and anytime, continuously monitoring areas known to be more prone to geohazards can help to determine preventive or alert actions to safeguard human life, property and businesses. Remote sensing technology—especially satellite-based—can be of help due to its high spatial and temporal coverage. Indeed, data acquired from the most recent satellite missions is considered suitable for a detailed reconstruction of past events but also to continuously monitor sensitive areas on the lookout for potential geohazards. This work aims to apply different techniques and methods for extensive exploitation and analysis of remote sensing data, with special emphasis given to landslide hazard, risk management and disaster prevention. Multi-temporal SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) interferometry, SAR tomography, high-resolution image matching and data modelling are used to map out landslides and other geohazards and to also monitor possible hazardous geological activity, addressing different study areas: (i) surface deformation of mountain slopes and glaciers; (ii) land surface displacement; and (iii) subsidence, landslides and ground fissure. Results from both the processing and analysis of a dataset of earth observation (EO) multi-source data support the conclusion that geohazards can be identified, studied and monitored in an effective way using new techniques applied to multi-source EO data. As future work, the aim is threefold: extend this study to sensitive areas located in different countries; monitor structures that have strategic, cultural and/or economical relevance; and resort to artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to be able to analyse the huge amount of data generated by satellite missions and extract useful information in due course

    Description: Fossil pollen and spore records provide highly creditable proxy data to investigate the past environmental changes such as palaeovegetation and palaeoclimate. Pollen database promotes past environmental studies from local to regional and global scales and from qualitative to quantitative reconstructions. This is of great significance on exploring the interactions among past vegetation, climates and anthropogenic disturbances at large spatial scale and long temporal scale, to better understand the evolution of the earth system. In this paper, a fossil pollen dataset of China is compiled, by synthesizing 372 original or digitized fossil pollen records including 790 pollen taxa in China’s land and ocean during the late-Quaternary (since 50 ka BP). The dataset includes site names, latitude, longitude and altitude, pollen data source, sample type, sediment length or span, sample number of each site, dating method and dating number, age span and reference, as well as the fossil pollen percentage of each sampling site. The pollen data, mostly published from late 1980s to present, are concentrated in vegetation regions of temperate and subtropical forests, temperate grasslands, temperate deserts and alpine vegetation on the Qingzang Plateau. Sample sites are distributed at different altitudes from deep sea to high Qingzang Plateau, but the majority of the sites are located between 0–2 000 m. The dataset comprises of 178 raw pollen records (47.8%) and 194 digitized pollen records (52.2%). Pollen samples are mainly from lake sediment (151 sites), alluvial/fluvial sediment (99 sites), and peat (67 sites), accounting for 85.2% of the total sampling sites. Radiocarbon is the main dating method that accounts for 93.8% of total samples, and most of the sites have 2–10 radiocarbon dating data. Each site has an average number of pollen taxa of 19, with the most sites having 4–30 pollen taxa. The temporal and spatial distribution of representative pollen taxa (Pinus, Quercus, Artemisia and Poaceae) reveals increasing trends both in their distributional range and pollen concentration from the last glacial maximum to Holocene, but such trends have various regional patterns in different parts of China. This fossil pollen dataset is a fruitful work of collection of pollen records in most territory of China that conducted by palynologists from China and overseas during the last half century. It consolidates the valuable and fundamental data that can be potentially utilized to explore the evolution of past environments and their driving mechanism of climate change and human disturbance.

    Notes: A new up-and-down method is developed and a new estimate formula for the variance ofsensitivity variables is proposed. This formula fully considers the effect of test conditions on theestimating accuracy, resulting in higher order of precision. In order to give an objectivedemonstration, the Monte Carlo comparative results between the present method and the Brucetonmethod is given, which shows that the estimating values by the present method are much moreaccurate than those by Bruceton method in all conditions. Even with small samples, the presentmethod still could obtain a good estimate value. Thus the proposed method not only solves theproblem with traditional methods but also reduced the number of experiment, resulting in greatsaving. Finally, an application for safety fatigue limits is given

    Notes: The measuring temperature and force experiments of cutting heat-resistance steel(3Cr-1Mo-1/4V alloy and 1Cr18Ni9 alloy) by plane milling insert and milling insert with complexgroove that invented by ourselves has been done, meanwhile, the falling process ofsticking-welding chip when milling insert cut-in and cut-out has been observed by high-speedphotograph. Mechanical-thermal coupled field has been analyzed using ANSYS, and equivalentcomplex stress of the coupled field is larger than the stress of single field distinctly, it shows thatthey have a relation of direct proportion. The results of test and analysis show that the main reasonsof adhesion failure are heat that produced in cutting process and the change of temperature gradsduring cut-in or cut-out and alternate tension stress and stress impact during cut-in or cut-out.,which provides technical support and experimental data for the groove's optimization andreconstruction of milling insert with 3D complex groove

    Notes: A comprehensive set of 600 experimental standard enthalpies of formation (ΔHf0) is presented. With its diverse species, many possessing less usual geometries and bonding situations, this compilation is capable of uncovering deficiencies in approaches of quantum chemistry that are not detectable with smaller sets of ΔHf0 values. Its usefulness in benchmarking, calibration, and parametrization of new electronic structure methods is illustrated with the development of the B3LYP/6-311++G** bond density functional scheme. This scheme, which is sufficiently inexpensive in terms of computer time and memory to allow predictions even for molecules as large as the C60 fullerene, requires only single point calculations at optimized geometries. It yields values of ΔHf0 with the average absolute error of 3.3 kcal/mol, rivaling more expensive methods in accuracy (especially for larger systems). A list of species that are poorly handled by a typical hybrid density functional used in conjunction with a moderate-size basis set is given. This list is intended for rigorous testing of new density functionals. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Formulas governing fixed orbital hardnesses and their relation to the hardness kernel are derived. It is shown how the orbital hardness matrix and its inverse matrix, the orbital softness matrix, may thus be directly calculated, and then the total chemical hardness, softness, and electronegativity of a molecular species. These quantities are calculated for the molecule HCN, using Dirac exchange and von Barth–Hedin correlation in the local density form of Kohn–Sham theory. The result complies with the frontier orbital theory. As quantitative indicators of orbital reactivity, the frontier orbital softness and Fukui indices generally have larger values than inner electron orbitals. The relation of orbital hardness matrix elements to the two-electron orbital integrals in a typical molecular orbital calculation is discussed, and it is demonstrated that diagonalization of the orbital hardness matrix leads to orbitals more localized than conventional Kohn–Sham orbitals. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: A new organic photochromic function material containing pyrazolone-ring,1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(4-fluobenzal)-pyrazolone-5 thiosemicarbazone (PM4FBP-TSC) was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum and 1H NMR spectrum. The photochromic properties and photocolored kinetics of PM4FBP-TSC were studied by Time-dependent UV-vis reflective spectra and fluorescent spectra under irradiation of 365nm light. The structure of PM4FBP-TSC was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Space group Pbca with celldimensions of a = 18.445(4) Å, b = 11.987(2) Å, c = 19.249(4) Å, V = 4256.1(18) Å3, Z = 8 and R = 0.0521. The crystal structure analysis of photocolored product of PM4FBP-TSC showed that the photochromic phenomenon was due to the photoisomerization from enol form to keto formı and the mechanism of intermolecular proton transfer was applied to interpret the photochromism. Thephotoisomerization belongs to the first-order reaction by computation, and kinetic reaction constant is k1 = 6.85 × 10-5 s-1
