Abstract A composite model for superplasticity, based on the joint influences of both the behaviour of a composite boundary and creep, is proposed. In this model, superplasticity is considered as a combination of two mechanisms: grain-boundary sliding and dislocation creep, which occur either together or sequentially. Applied to experimental data, it can describe the logarithmic stress versus strain rate curves observed for superplastic materials showing regions I, II and III.
